Hello. I have been unsuccessful trying to trigger ACID Pro 4.0a from my ProTools LE and I would appreciate some help. Here is my configuration: Machine 1: MAC G4/OS 9.1/466MHz/768MB RAM/Digi001/MOTO MIDI Express XT running ProTools LE 5.1.1 Machine 2: PC/Win XP Pro/Intel P4 1.7GHz/1GB RAM/Terratec EWS88D running ACID Pro 4.0a. 1. On machine 2, after starting _ONLY_ Reason 2.0 and configuring it for external MIDI sync, it responds perfectly when ProTools is stopped/started. 2. Next, I exit Reason 3. I then start ACID Pro 4.0a on the same machine, and configure it to use the same MIDI interface ("Options/Preferences/MIDI/Make these devices available for MIDI input" and check off the interface.) 4. NExt I go to the "Sync" tab and select the same interface for "Trigger from MIDI timecode settings". I leave the frame rate as "SMPTE Non-drop 30 (30 fps)" although I have tried them all. 5. To make sure I enable "Trigger From MIDI Timecode" I added that button to the toolbar and click it "In". (I did this because I had no GUI indication that Ctrl+F7 did anything. 6. I start/stop ProTools on the MAC and ACID does nothing. Is there something I'm missing in my ACID setup? Again, Reason triggers perfectly, so I know the PC is receiving the MIDI start/stop commands on the selected interface. Or is this an issue with the 4.0a release. I've scoured several newsgroups in addition to the SF Knowledge Base and formus but to no avail. Thanks for your help. Jim |

ACID can only trigger to MIDI Time Code. It sounds like you are setting up PTools to generate MIDI clock. ACID cannot trigger to MIDI clock. Peter |

According to DigiDesign, ProTools LE does generate MIDI Time Code. And, I'm using a MOTU MIDI Express XT that boasts this ability in it's feature set. I've tried the MOTU at 30 fps and 25 fps and played with several sync parms in ACID without success. When ACID is in "Trigger From MIDI Timecode" mode should the transport buttons still be enabled? Reason 2.0 dims out said buttons. It is understandable this should occur as stop/start/etc. takes place from the master controller. |

Try a quick check to make sure that ACID is seeing the timecode. That could be problem number one. The way to do this: 1. Right click on the "Time at Cursor" clock (it's the one on the left) and select MIDI timecode in. The display will change slightly and add the title "MIDI Tiemcode In" Now start ProTools and you should see the clock starting to run. It's possible that the stream got lost in the path. -Jenn |

I don't doubt that it does. How you set it up I don't know. Since you said that Reason is slaving correctly, I will assume that you have your hardware configured correctly. You should set the time display to show incomming MTC. Right click on the time display in ACID and you will see the option to display incomming MIDI time code. ACID's transport controls are always active. This permits you to over ride any current state. That is, if you are waiting for MIDI Time Code, you can hit play and this will temporarily put ACID out of waiting for trigger mode. If ACID is playing triggered, then you can hit the stop button with out having to wait for the master to stop. Peter Peter |
