Subject:Speakers for 5.1

Just upgraded to Acid 4 and need to upgrade my sepakers to hear the surround sound. I looked at a set made by Klipsch yesterday. They were about $300. Sounded pretty good in the store. Any suggestions ????

They look good. My other question is how will I set it up to hear the surround sound mix (all 5 channels, seperate and together). I am using it for video and want to be able to hear the FX I add in true "surround sound".
BTW MARS is going out of business, I mat try their closeouts for the monitors if thats what I need. Thanks in advance -d

What are you asking, exactly? You need an audio interface with six discreet audio out channels connected to your six speakers.

That looks like spending $750 if you get each speaker for $150. Depending on your need for clarity, the Creative Inspire 5.1 set plus an Audigy is what I'm using for testing at work. I think I'd rather be using a different soundcard, but this is probably the least expensive fully-compatible surround setup one could find--the soundcard has three stereo miniplug outputs (one for Front L/R, one for Rear L/R, and one for Center/Sub), and five of the speakers are about one pound a piece 3"x4"x3", but sound surprisingly full for such dinky little speakers. The sub's just OK.

Otherwise, if you're looking to go more full-tilt, you may want get a card like a Gina, Delta 1010, MOTU or similarly qualified multi-output card, and run those to powered speakers (or to a 5.1 consumer amp, or to three separate amps, and THEN to some passive speakers (I suppose you could throw a mixer in between all that if you wanted to further complicate things...)).

Hope this helps,
Joel
