Subject:REMIXING IN ACID MUSIC 3.0 : Beatmapping question

I had originally posted a message the other day to inquire about Acid Music 2.0 remixing capabilities. Well I've decided that I will go out and buy Acid Music 3.0 which I was told was a lot easier to do with this version than 2.0. Here is my question: Say I want to remix something from an existing source, like just a cd from some artist. Can I isolate the vocals or is all I can do is add to the existing song? What exactly does the beatmapping do ??? I was just wondering so that I know exactly what I am getting and what I can do with it before I go out and buy it. **Also can I use the loops cd in Acid Music 2.0 for Acid Music 3.0 too ????** K |

The loops are in a standard Windows format and can be used in any decent software. The Beatmapper allows you to align a pice of audio with no certain beat length to the beats and measures in an Acid song. There are shareware tools that attempt to pull the vocals out of music, but I've never used them. Some of the principles of voice removal are reasonable, but not typically effective. Want to know why, just ask. Your best bet is to chop your source up and select parts without vocals and parts that don't have beats but do have vocals. TeeCee |

No, you cannot isolate the vocal. Any attempt to extract just the vocal from a song is typically doomed to failure. I have read many theories on how to do it, and all pretty much fail miserably except with old songs (70's and earlier). You can give it a try ( you never know). Best I have been able to do is get the background music low enough to where I could lose it in the mix once I added other music. the vocal was washed out and sounded like someone on a respirator singing in a wind tunnel. You have a better chance of removing vocals, but even that chance is not much better. beatmapper will enable you to synch your song to the rest of your loops. Your song for the most part becomes like one big acid loop and will stretch and shift to adjust to whatever tempo (within reason). It comes in handy if you made a song in another project and you think it needs more. Instead of recreating it , you can beatmap it and just add what you need in acid. You can use your old loops. In fact, you can use any wav file and several other music formats. it is usually best to acidize your loops first using soundforge. If you don't have soundforge, there are several programs available on the web ( some free of charge) that will acidize your loops for you. Even if you don't acidize them, Acid does a good job most of the time of recognizing and synching tempo. |

Okay as some of you may know I've got a lot of question and need a lot of help cause I am just getting use to this and I am excited about it. Keep in mind I am fairly new to this so excuse me if my questions seem a bit "dumb". So I notice that acidplanet.com has contest of remixing songs and you can upload them. You can download the vocals and the instrumentation seperately to make your own mix. With my Acid Music 2.0 how do I go about doing this to where it shows up in my acid music. Do I just keep the acid window open and then just download vocals, instruments etc from acid planet and just add to them from the loops in my Acid Music 2.0. Do they show up in the box automatically or what? Where do I retrieve them once they are downloaded to apply and paint to remix and use loops from my acid? I really want to remix that Fru-Frou song I just need some help to get me started. Your help is greatly appreciated from this new and inquisitive to this user to the acid family -K |

Don't feel "dumb". EVERYONE is a beginner once and EVERYONE can always learn something new. First, download the main project file from acid. When you unzip it, it should form a folder that has a project file ( it will have the file extension .acd) and some loops. I reccoemend placing that folder to a place that is easy for you to remember. If you have a fast connection, download all the additional loop sets for this remix project. i usually will make one folder and unzipp all the files to the same folder to make them easier to track. This will get you started. If you open the .acd file, it will open up a song complete with loops. you can take a look at how they arranged things to get an idea or you can just start a new project. You can browse through the other loops and preview them to see how they sound with the project. If you start a new project, you can do the same thing, previewing loops and painting them as needed. |
