I want to take a stereo file, convert it to mono, and then have the mono file on both L & R channels. I'm thinking that I will accomplish this by merely converting the stereo file to mono, then converting it back to stereo. Note that I do NOT want the file to be converted back to the original stereo, I want two mono files that are EXACTLY the same at each channel. The end result will be a file in which I can send the left channel to a house PA, and the right channel to a monitor. I will add a count-off to the right channel which should only come through the monitor. As you can see, a true stereo file will not work as I need the same thing in both channels (with the exeption of the count off...) And I on the right track? Is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do? Thanks! |

That should work. Once you've converted to mono, the original stereo information is lost. Convert that mono back to stereo and you will have identical left & right tracks. |

Quickest way to do this is to use the "Stereo to Stereo - Pan centre, use both channels (50%)" preset in the Channel Converter. This creates a stereo file in which the left and right channels are identical, both consisting of a mono mix of the original file (i.e. exactly what you want) in one step, rather than having to do it manually in two steps. |

Stereo to Mono Conversion. I can't find this option in 4.0.'s menu selections anywhere. nor in the manual. Can someone please tell me how to convert a stereo track to mono? thanks. |

A mono signal will already send the same signal to all speakers, correct? So why convert back to stereo at all? |

Because, they said they want to add a click track to one side of the mono track which will be fed to the monitors and the other side will be fed to the house mains. Obviously you don't want the house to hear the click track and you want the band to hear the click track in their monitors. In SF 4.0 converting Stereo to Mono and Vice-Versa. Goto the File Menu select "Properties", goto the "format" tab, check mono. Click "OK", up will pop a menu, to "mix" both channels, or use just the "Left" or just the "right". Do the same process but check "Stereo" to go from Mono to Stereo. |
