Subject:Sound Forge vs. Sonar (Newbie question)

I'm pretty solid on Vegas Video. But I've turned the corner on understanding how important audio is to video and I'm looking into sound production (soundtrack) software for my videos. Could someone explain in laymen's terms the general differences between Sonar and Sound Forge (or Acid)? Why would I buy one over the other? Is one better suited for a purpose like this? Is one destructive and one non-destructive?

Thanks,
Dan

Before you go too far looking into other software, take a closer look at Vegas. It's already got some of the best, most powerful, and easiest to use audio editing capabilities. You may not need anything else. There isn't much that Sound Forge can do that Vegas can't.

Sonar is a very powerful audio tool which includes features found in Sound Forge like audio recording and the ability to apply audio effects. It has numerous features not found in SF, such as midi editing, utilizing software synths and "acid style" loop capabilities. Sound Forge is an editor, which makes it easier to change basic properties about a wav (stereo or mono) then it is in Sonar. Both programs are available as demos.... check them out and see what you may want.
