Subject:painting in repeats

How do i do this:
open up a 10 second wav file, and then when i use the paint (or pencil) tool, as i click and drag it across the space to put some of the audio down, when it reaches the end of the file, instead of not continuing, or continuing in silence, how can i make it start again so id be drawing the audio file over and over instead of having to copy and paste it?

i downloaded some other acd files where you can do that, and in those, the event has the corners cut off, but in this, the corners of the event make it a perfect rectangle. does this have something to do with it?

Your wave file must be a "one shot", and to do fast copy/pastes, you can:
A) After drwing out the wave file once, click on the event to select it and do a Ctrl+C, then to get the cursor to the end do a Alt+Ctrl+arrow key, then just keep doing a Ctrl+V to do multiple pastes of clipboard contents.

B) After drawing out wave file once, click on event and hold Ctrl key while dragging event. This will leave a copy behind as you drag.

If it indeed be a One-shot (which is what it sounds like), you can also hold down CTRL and paint with the Paint Tool. You can simply click once to place an entire One-shot event down, or paint it across the current grid spacing.

While holding down CTRL and keeping the Paint Tool active, you can quickly erase a particular One-shot event by right-clicking the event in...erm...one shot.

if the files a one shot file, which imguessing means its only painted on once, how do i change that?

If you have sound forge, you could change the Acid Properties to "loop" -- but that could open up another whole can of worms if you don't give it the right beat assignment.

You mean change it to a loop? You could double-click the track's icon in the track list and under the General tab, change the Track type to Loop. However, I wouldn't recommend this, as it'll usually produce undesirable results especially with percussion One-shots.

You could also construct something in Sound Forge as Jessariah mentioned. It'd be a matter of using Sound Forge's ACID Loop Creation Tools in conjunction with copying pasting and/or mixing and the Time Stretch function. It's a lot more involved, but definitely possible to create a complex beat using a series of different One-shots.

Your best bet is to arrange the One-shots as I mentioned before. If you want to use the arrangement of One-shots over and over without painting again and again, solo the One-shot tracks you want to bounce down, set the Loop Region over the area you want to render, and then use CTRL+M to render the results to a new track. If the region was short enough (by default ~30 seconds or less), the newly rendered track will be a Loop type track.

I like how there's different ways to accomplish a task.
Good tip on the paint tool + Ctrl.
I keep reading this manual, but somethings just don't stick, or remain unclear. The on line tut's don't work with my 56K dial up. At least I finally figured out how to change the DLS voice assigned to a recorded midi track, so it doesn't render using the default PIANO.......MSB/LSB/patch.....what a pain.
