Here are some more inconsistencies: When I duplicate a soft synth track and change the volume slider of one of the tracks, it changes both (no, they are not select-linked). Also, if I duplicate a MIDI track and change the instrument of one of them in the list editor, only one of the two tracks will sound. ALSO, changing the list properties of a MIDI track will give me a cryptic warning about not being able to auto-save (as a precursor to crashing horribly). Hmmmm....
