IMHO the best program to make your own drum loops is Fruityloops. Download the demo - even with that you can save files to wav. |

Some quick questions from a poor lost soul: is fruity loops for a different purpose than acid 4.0 or is it the same just acids competition? What does fruity have that acid doesnt....or why should I purchase it? Thanks.....astral. |

Well, this is very general advice, but in basic terms Acid is for manipulating audio and loops, while Fruity is for sequencing VSTi instruments and creating loops. I don't think they're in competition. In fact they make a perfect partnership as has been mentioned here before. Unfortunately running Fruity as a VSTi inside AP4 isn't as smooth as it should be so I'd strongly recommend running them both standalone until the bugs in AP4 are ironed out. But they are still a great combination. Load Fruity up with some good freeware VSTi like - for drums - the Drumatic drum synth, and start building up patterns. Make some variations and export the patterns "Acidised". By muting various parts of the Fruity patterns, and exporting wavs as you experiment with the sounds, you can very quickly build up say 10 or 20 variations on a theme. Switch to Acid, drop these loops onto their own tracks and start painting and slicing - what Acid does best. By using the Chopper and careful use of some extra DX effects things can very quickly start humming. This is also a very simple and cheap way to get a totally original feel. |

K cool me gots fruity loops and i love it just messing around with all the cool effects and turning the computer keyboard into a piano n drum stuff but i cant figure out how to record and make my own loops or such (i know its not really recording, just placing each effect with its 4th or 2nd time slot or whatever). manual? every time i try to go to tutorials begining one it says to have a loops open to work with, even if i have a loop open. >? |

K nevermind that last one (id still like to find tutorials tho) how can i in a way copy and paste the configuration from one pattern to another so i dont have to redo it every time? like u see the screen which each channel for its instrument and which effects play on what beats with what notes, how can i just transfer that from patters 1 to pattern 2 and change a little bit instead of having to manualy redo it all. and how can i add more beats into one pattern? |

Here's some tutorials: http://www.floops.co.uk/pages/tut.htm To change from 16 to whatever go to: options > song settings Then drag the "bar length" to whatever you want. Be careful if you change the beat length. To copy from one to another, right-click the name tab edit > copy then right-click you new track name tab and right-click edit > paste Having fun ? :) The best part comes when you start dropping them into Acid ! ps: download this free drum machine VSTi for some great synth drums in Fruity (or AcidPro4) http://www.e-phonic.com/products/drumatic.html |

very cool. thanks man. another question tho (ima read those tuts, just wondering) is there a way to insert patters? like to push over all the sequences by 4 patterns and inset 4 in the begining for an intro? |

You could change the length of the pattern in song settings then shift all events over by four, but then you'd have an odd length. Another way would be to contruct the new patetrn and then to construct a song in Fruity song mode. But this is where Fruity starts to fall apart IMHO. As soon as you want to start building up a real structure then it's way, way easier to do this in Acid. Fruity, good as it is, is no good for song construction. Just as the advice in this thread started: get Fruity AND Acid for a winning combination. |
