Hello all. Hope everyone is well. My name is Antonio and I purchased Acid 4.0 last week sometime. It came bundled with Sonic Forge 6.0 which i thought was absolutely great and also a host of loop cds!!! In order to avoid reloading a loop disc everytime I want to open a saved project, do I have to copy the loop disc(s) to my hard drive??? The reason I ask is because, sometimes whenever I go to open a saved project, i get prompted to insert a loop disc. Can anyone answer this very basic question for me? I apologize for my ignorance, but I am in the process of migrating from a hardware-based recording system to now, a software-based one, so please be gentle! =)

PS does anyone have any success in creating their own drum parts using the "one-shots" ? how do you do it?? it seems very tedious. fruity loops is much easier for me!!

Antonio,

The easiest way to work around having to swap your loops discs in and out each time you open a different project (or multiple times when you open a project) is to save your project as an ACD-ZIP file, rather than just an ACD file. This way all the audio you are using is compressed and saved within the project file. This uses more hard drive space, but it will save you from having to swap out discs. The only time you need your CD's is when you wish to add new loops to the project.

Hope this helps,
Nate

So if I save as a zip file and add new loops, then do a regular save in acid are the new loops automatically included with the zip

Yes, because the project becomes an ACD-ZIP project. (You can confirm this by looking in the upper left of the ACID title bar.)

Cool

Does the zip add ant compression to the files

It will do a WinZip-style file compression over the project file and all of the audio involved. (Note: this is different than any audio compression technique. It is lossless and is entirely unrelated to lossy forms of compression such as MPEG or WMA. In addition, it has absolutely nothing to do with signal compression, used during mastering) When you go to open the project again, these will be decompressed to a temp directory while you work. It's very convenient way to work, especially if you don't use very many really long audio tracks.

acd.zip is a good saving method. But I like to have all of my libraries available via explorer. I have a 10 gig partition called "Samples". I copy all of my libraries, 8 packs, get media and other samples here. Much more efficent than saying "Hmmm, now which CD was that on?"

10 gig? Why limit yourself! (seriously)
