How many would ever use sofo fx if they had the Waves platinum Bundle?
Are the sofo really good or kind of waek like cakewalk plugs

i use sofo plugins often since the waves plugins use a lot or system ressources. well they sound awesome but i dont use a waves plug for example when i need a simple delay. whats really not usable is the sofo reverb... there i prefere ultrafunk reverb or waves trueverb ;-)

I use the SF FX for thinks like track EQ, some mild delays, and some compression. For the EQ, I don't want coloration or warmth, just accuracy. The delay and the track compressor are both very straight forward with all the controls exposed. Plus they aren't CPU hogs. I can't see using the Waves plug-ins for everything.

Agreed. I use (and prefer) the SOFO track eq most of the time. Very fast, easy and accurate. I prefer the Waves Ren. compressor on vocals, and acoustic instruments though.

I only use Waves plugs for mastering. Two reasons here #1 CPU hogs #2 Really not necessary for simple track EQ and such.The only plugs by SF I dont like are Verb. For that I always use outboard gear anyway.

Waves makes some excellent plugins. The thing that I absolutely HATE about them though is the PACE copy protection! There was an update a couple of months ago that fixed the worst of the PACE problems, but before that, PACE would randomly crash and reboot your system, sometimes several times in a row, even when you weren't running any Waves programs! Since I updated to Windows XP Service Pack 1, I've had several similar crash and reboot experiences, one today in fact, that I strongly suspect are related to PACE copy protection. Even when it's working right, there is about a minute delay the first time you use a Waves plugin during a given session while the copy protection is verifying your system. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't buy their plugins because the PACE copy protection is such a hassle.

As far as their plugins go, their Truverb is excellent. I actually like Sonic Foundry's noise reduction better even though it's about 1/4 the price, though I use the Waves hum remover all the time. The Waves Ultramaximizer is superb. The EQ's have a nicer interface than SoFo's. CPU usage is pretty low for the most part. I like their de-esser quite a bit as well.
