Hey I got this thing and its great....One question

Is there any way to jog or shuttle the veiw?

I am able to jog an shuttle the cursor but all my (painful) mouse work ends up being grabbing the slider and dragging the veiw left and right

One more Question

Is there a way to quickly see how long a clip is after changing its length without having to look at the ruler and do the math

What do you mean by "jog or shuttle the view"?

If you want the length of a clip, double click on it and it will select/loop the event and you will see the length of it in the small data field just below the workspace.

Hmm, scroll the view? Shift+Mouse Wheel will scroll the view, but I don't think you can send that from the ShuttlePro. Vegas will scroll to follow the cursor, so the PgUp/PgDn keys (buttons 3 and 4) should move you around.

Thanks for the tips...sorry about the lazy questions...Its just I have a big project and hav'nt had time to study as I shoud. Can you quickly select multiple clips and zoom to the selcted clips veiw?

Another ODD thing. Is I can add several files and they wont show in the media pool...no way to refreash veiw. Then I relaunch and there they are.

If you can figure out a way to select multiple clips please let me know. I've pretty much stopped using mine because of this. Tough to always look down and stretch my thumb over to my Control key.

Either a ctrl-left click or a ctrl by itself while I click would work.

Isn't the whole idea that you use the mouse AND shuttle pro (one for each hand)?
You could re-assign one of the shuttle pro keys to do a ctrl and hold that down while you scroll the mouse wheel with the other hand. I have re-assigned most of the keys on my shuttle pro so that I can do all the standard editing stuff without touching the keyboard.

I don't think it's possible to map a modifier via USB. But I'd love to be proven wrong. When I try to program the ctrl key the SP just sits there waiting for a ctrl PLUS some other key. And it won't accept the left mouse button as that other key.

I just tried it: Choose a button in the shtl pro control panel, click on the "Computer Response" Bar, choose "Press Modifier Keys" and choose "Shft". Hold down that button on the shtl pro and roll the mouse-wheel with the other hand. Works.

This does NOT work when you try it with the menu choice "type keystroke" in that case it "sits & waits" for the second key.

You can also try mapping page up and page down with the frequency setting on hold down and repeat. With other keys set to zoom in and out and next and previous marker it improves the navigation alot.

For selecting in the media pool etc I use a logitech mouse which has a thumb button on the side, set this to control and you have one handed multiple file select.

Hope this helps.

Question for you guys - does the Shuttle allow for more than one button press at a time? I.e. if you have one set for Ctrl, and one for Shift, can you press them both and get Ctrl+Shift?

I use the MS Strategic Commander as a keyboard replacement for Vegas but it doesn't allow for two buttons registering simultaneously.

Hey - it _does_ work. Thanks for the pointer. Maybe I'll start using it again. Now if only VV3 allowed key remapping.

I really detest the CSP interface. Totally non-Windows compliant and non-intuitive. Nothing anywhere to indicate pressing the box will do anything, or that the box is a button.

What it really needs is a simple text .ini programming language that could be modified easily, saved easily, backed up easily, and loaded quickly via hotkey.

Control_Z:

That's interesting, the alpha version of the ShuttlePro driver didn't have a user interface at all, you had to edit a .ini file with hex codes for virtual keys!

I wish you could send entire key sequences, and I wish you could make the lower keys "shifts" for the top keys, so that thumb+finger could send more commands. I suppose coupling the SP with one of those macro programs would be pretty powerful.

Arg! Not hex codes please. But something in plain english like the old HalfLife config.cfg:
bind "Key1" "Left_Control"

Of course, it would also be great if VV4 did this as well:
bind "Mouse_left1" "split"

A simple UI could assist in setting keys, and it should be simple for different editors to load different key bindings via shortcut when starting the program.

Agree the SP could use a set of modifier keys right under the thumb (shift, control, alt, winkey).
