Subject:Getting a MIDI track to sync with an Acid project 4.0a

Greetings Acid heads. Ok, any ideas on this one? I have downloaded a MIDI file from the net. I’ve loaded it into Acid 4.0a and have it triggering my keyboard. I’ve then recorded the keyboard playing back that MIDI file as an audio file. It plays just fine in the Acid project. So far so good. I then tried to Acidize this file in Sound Forge 6.0d. After saving it and reloading it into to project file, I’m not able to get Acid to tempo match with other loop files. Can someone please tell me what I’m doing wrong? It seems pretty straight forward, but I must be missing something. I thought it might be related to it originally being a MIDI file, but once it has been recorded as an audio file I would think it wouldn’t matter. In fact, the MIDI file is no longer in the project…just its audio version. Iacobus?

Yeah, forget about the MIDI part. What you have is an audio clip that you cannot sync. I can think of a few things. Depending on just how off your clip is (is it just drifting or is it really off?). You may have a trimming issue where the length is not an exact beat count. Solution - trim it up. You may have the beat count and therefore tempo set wrong. Solution - get the beat count right. You may have a wow and flutter type issue where by the complete solution you are using to record MIDI playback is not performing consistently - the timing is getting messed up between transmitting MIDI notes, your equipment playing back, and your PC recording playback. Solution - get a new system.

I've not recorded MIDI playback as audio using Acid, but if Acid cannot play MIDI while recording audio, then you need another solution. A single application to do both would be preferable. Most audio/MIDI sequencers can do this. Acid is NOT a sequencer.

Best of luck,
TeeCee
