Hi Everyone, Long time lurker, first time poster. Basically my question is what I stated in the title. Is the improvement is Acid Pro 4.0 worth the jump from Acid 3.0? I am running Acid 3 with no problems on a computer with a Pentium III 800hz processor, 40gig harddrive and 526 MB of memory. Would I have any problems with 4? Is the the new MIDI tracks capability that 4 has, and the ability to right in different time signatures that good? I would appreciate your thoughts on this as I am debating taking guitar center up on their incredible sale price for Acid 4. Thank you. -Spider |

It depends on your needs. Do you do alot of midi? Will you be using VSTi's? Do like I did and download the demo. I actually opened up Pro 3.0 and 4.0 side by side on my desktop and ran the same 8-pack through both. I switched back and forth to see/hear the difference. I have +/- the same set-up as you: 850 Athlon, 20gig system,40 gig audio, 512 RAM. Give the demo a try and compare. M |

Buy it! That's a great price if it's the same as Musician's Friend. I don't have AP3, but this...recording MIDI using my old DX7...is working great, and is very exciting. I'm not really familiar with using a PC to do my MIDI recording, but this sure beats using my old Alesis sequencer. AP4 has given me a reason to re-assemble my whole MIDI rig, which was recently moth balled due to working with video.....just not enough time to do it all. Vegas Video....which should be renamed as "Vegas Pro A/V"...or something, is also a must have. AP4 v.b is just around the corner, as you know, so it will just get better and better. AP4 also has an improved audio engine. Some are claiming they can hear the difference. It's a good investment....especially if the price is right! They've been recommending that AP3 be uninstalled and possible performing a registry cleaning before installing 4. Have Fun! |

Salad !!! Are u working for the promoting department of Sonic foundry ??? obviously u've never been using Acid 3... Spider,if u don't intend to use Midi and still wanna acheive some serious work,I would recommend u stick with pro 3 for the moment; knowing a new update of acid is around the corner,u should definitly wait till acid pro 4 is "Usable". If you actually use real instruments, 4 is a no brainer. |

Well, its a no brainer if you use real instruments and 4.0a is stable on your platform. Sadly, I paid good money to have the new version of ACID make short work of my "uncrashable" Win 2K. Perhaps its my fault... |

yeah I go with the majority..save your money till sonic foundry provides some acceptable updates to 4.0. Due to its instability on my system. I'd just call it an expensive coaster. worthless for the time being. |

Well, I'd be biased if I were to provide my opinion, but try out the demo for yourself. Me? I noticed a difference in audio quality vs. ACID Pro 3.0, which I wasn't expecting but was a nice surprise nonetheless. That alone is worth the upgrade. (psst. get it.) HTH, Iacobus |

Thanks everybody for you input. I guess I should have mentioned what and I how I use Acid. It's primary function is as a drum and percussion creator for songs that I then import into Protools LE running on a Digi 001. That way I can add my guitars, bass and vocals. I also use Acid for creating soundbeds for my compositions or for adding quirky sound effects to my songs. (I am a Studio composition Master's student at Purchase College in NY.) Even though some of you have voiced some stability issue in Acid4 and that i should wait until they have updated and fixed the problems, I may just go ahead and buy 4 while it is on sale at Guitar Center for $149. Also, they throw in 8 discs of SOFO loops. (A $300 value or so the adverb says.) I can then wait to install it on my computer when a better upgrade comes out. Again, thanks for the input. |

That's a great idea, Spider. Check out the 4.0a update if you do go to pick ACID 4.0 up at Guitar Center. (This is actually a full version that requires a serial key for full activation; just use the serial that came with your boxed version.) HTH, Iacobus |

I'd pay the 149 just for the loops. |

that's a really good deal you got. I upgraded recently to 4.0 and for me, the jury is still out. It's a little buggy, but some of the blame may be my computer ( still running a pIII 450 (soon to be upgraded thank god). With your setup though, acid 4 sounds like a good compliment. I never owned 3.0. I went from 2.0 to 4 so for me the difference is huge. |

Do you get to choose the loop cds, or are they preselected? If you can choose any 8 libraries, that is a remarkable deal. |
