Vegas Audio, would you buy it again or another software?

I'm new to this forum and have a question,I am using Cakewalk 8 currently but I only need audio software.I looked into and tried many different brands and don't like them any better than C.W.I am using Sound Forge{4.5,I think}and I really like it and was wodering if Vegas is as user friendly,I've tried Pro Tools LE and it's nice, but I dont want to get stuck in PT's narrow field of hardware and plug in options for PC.Misicians Friend will be selling Vegas Audio again on or around 10/21/2002 for $199.00,is this still supported or would a person be better off to purchase VV.Do you guys/gals have any thoughts or suggestions on Vegas and its future,I have alot of recording to do and I don't want to buy something that won't be supported or upgraded.
Thanks, Howard

I would, and will purchase Vegas again. The consensus from most Vegas users is that it is the easist, most intuitive and most powerful (in terms of its editing features). But if you are needing to work with midi sequencing *right now* then Vegas isn't the app for you. The next version probably will have some midi capabilities but that isn't confirmed yet. For many reasons VV3 is much better for me than VA 2 was.

Vegas is an awesome program. It's intuitive, powerful and lets you do complicated editing things very quickly making it a very efficient to work with.
The new features coming in 4.0 (which I'm guessing will be very similar to Acid 4.0) will make it even better.

Yes. The software rocks. I've tried various software before and nothing has yet beat Vegas for it's user friendliness. I struggled with other programs to get them hooked up and running for hours. Then I tried Vegas and I was recording in less than 5 minutes. Yes I would buy it again and will buy the update whenever it arives. And for midi I use Acid 4.0. I don't do a ton of MIDI but when I do it works well for me.

Juste tried Acid 4.0.
If the next Vegas has those features it'll be my only post prod application, for audio and video.

As much as I like Vegas, with the features that SONAR has that Vegas does not (automatable FX envelopes, mainly), I cannot see using Vegas for my next mixdown. With the CD burning capabilities of CD Architect 5, I can't see burning a CD with Vegas. I can't see using Vegas for anything in it's current version, even though what it does do, it does easier.

I just remembered some early dialog on the release of Vegas 3.0. The video version was released with the promise that the audio version would follow. The video version was supposed to be updated with all of the audio features of Vegas Audio 3 when VA 3 was released. Then it was announced that there would be no separate versions of Vegas 3, just Vegas Video. Does anyone remember any significant upgrades to Vegas Video 3 AFTER it's initial release?

Yep, on the audio side of the fence the update from V2 to V3 wasn’t very dramatic. It looked a lot better, some of the rough edges were smoothed over, and plenty of the finer points were finessed but that was pretty much it.

The core of the program was so good that they could get away with it. But time has marched on a little.

I love the new ACID and I’m sure that SF will do a similarly excellent job with the big V.

It does have automatable FX level envelopes, in case you've missed 'em. Drop down arrow under 'pan' for bussed FX. Otherwise you'll have to wait 'til Xmas !

Haha. The Dictator of PCDAW shows his face only to add nothing (just kidding).

You know what I want, fully automatable EQ Fc, amount, Q, and slope. Or at least Fc and amount. Most of the rest of the automatable FX parameters tend to be more creation oriented than mix down oriented (for me).
