makeit really pro

a couple simple things that would take vegas 4 to a REAL pro level.

1-more grid options.
you should be able to make the grid based on a loop or sample.now you have to stretch the loop to the grid.you should be able to define the beats and have the grid conform to these beats.
btw-anyone notice that acid used to export loops that fit perfectly in vegas grid (i.e. 99 bpm was exactly the same in both programs)now acid is the tiniest bit slower, its actually really anoying.

2-grouping.
its been said before, grouping in vegas is pretty much a joke.
it would be easy to have real grouping of events.

my suggestion for implementing both of these functions is to copy, rip off and steal the way pro tools does them.
this is not new technology and its something most applications that are considered pro have had for 5 years.

i still think dx automatable effects w/ vsti is a bad idea.
seems to me it should be all vst.

The grid Option HAS to be a must... u right
and lets hope they intend to implant VSTi and a better streching method.
Vegas 4 would be PRO and almost complete.

VSTi effects would make it. Better grids with looping functions would be cool. Sounds like they should combine Acid and Vegas for looping multitrack recording video production. Sounds kinda silly. I don't even do videos. But the idea of expanding someday would be great.

what can't you do with the grouping? I always found the grouping in vegas great!

same here, Vegas's grouping of events works exactly how I would expect grouping to work. Are you using the same group function we are?

Id love to see fader groups, but Buss Tracks might just take care of that!

Event grouping is a little weird is Vegas - I don't get the logic of the default setting.

Allon - to get Vegas to group as you'd probably expect (more like other DAWs) you have go to the internal preferences and set 'Event Group Selection' to 'True'. This should change the behaviour to something you're happier with, though why it's a hidden setting I really don't know...

im in tokyo so i only have access to vegas 1 so things are probably different as im experimenting than at my station at where im using vegas 3.
where is this preference for true grouping, is it just in options/preferences?
is it my imagination does vegas group events and not tracks.
if so this is part of my frustration.
am i able to use groups to do an envelope fade on multiple tracks?
grouping should be grouping of tracks.
please tell me how you are using the grouping.
thanks

I cant seem to find this 'Event Group Selection' to 'True' setting??

Im using VV3..

You need to hold down SHIFT when you go to OPTIONS > PREFERENCES. This will give you an additional 'internal' menu in preferences. Hit this, and find the Event Group selection setting.

Allon - this is refering to events, not tracks, though I agree there should definitely also be track grouping.

Ok.I have found it but what will it change in regrds to grouping??
Arnar wrote on 10/28/2002, 5:25 AM
Also i found in the internal preferences something labelled "use multi monitor api´s" ...what does that mean?
allon wrote on 10/28/2002, 11:24 PM
ok so you cant group tracks, right?
theres the problem!
it makes no sense.
you should just group a set of tracks and the everything you do is duplicated on all tracks grouped.if you dont want all tracks edited together unselect the group.
great for fading the ends of multiple drum tracks for instance.
like i said, copy pro tools for this one, its simple and effective.
this is not rocket science!
maybe i will have to switch to pro tools all together.
i keep holding out thinking sf will get things together.
they get one more chance for me.
generally speaking vegas is great for audio and i would still like to keep a pc station.
they are so close to having a real competitive product that its frustrating.

I EXTRACTED THE MUSIC BY CD AND RECORDED THE IN AND OUTRO SPEECH IN SOUNDFORGE 6.0,
THEN I RECORDED THE SERMON IN VEGAS 3.0,BUT THAT'S WHEN IT GOES SOUR BECAUSE THOSE TRACKS DONE IN VEGAS ARE WEEK AND TWANGY SOUNDING AND WHEN YOU BURN TO CD,THE TRACKS DONE IN SF ARE LOUD BUT THE TRACKS DONE IN VEGAS ARE LOW.
IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW I CAN SOLVE THIS PROBLEM,PLEASE POST THE REMEDY.
THANK YOU..............JOHNNIE
