Subject:Urgent question about Rendering files in Acid 3

Hello there! My problem is that after I render a file on Acid 3, and I open it in Wave Lab, I get extremely low audio levels. When I play it in Acid it sounds great. I use Waves´ L1 ultramaximizer, and set the ceiling level to -0.3 db´s. It sounds and looks good on Acid, but when I render that file (as .wav) and open it in Wave Lab, the meter redings fall bellow -20 or even -30 dB´s. What am I doing wrong? Why does it happen to me? I have Windows XP Professional, and my sound card is the Digi 001 one. Thank you in advance for your advice! Fernando |

I really just wonder what am I doing wrong... I´ve tried rendering as every file type, and get the same results. I´d really appreciate some guidance into this. Thank you. Fernando |

What is your master level in Acid? Where in your chain is the Maximizer? Are you sure you're not compressing it too much in the final mix? More information on exactly what you're doing in the rendering would be helpful. |

Hello, Decrink. Thank you for helping. You asked me what my level on the Master was, and it is actually quite low. Low enough so it doesn´t clip. The Ultra Maximizer in the chain IS ON the Master (as if I was in Protools), and in Acid it reads nicely to -0.3 dB´s. It is not limiting too much, just around 3 dB´s of limiting. Now that you asked about my master levels, my question is: What is it actually rendered, the Master level BEFORE the Ultra Maximizer (alltough the plug in is ON the Master track) or the Master level as it becomes AFTER the Ultramaximizer. I ask you this because the rendered level (as I see it on WaveLab)is actually very close to the level I have the Master in Acid set to. So then, doesn´t the rendering process apply the plug ins that are applied to the Master track? Thank you for you comments, and I will really appreciate more insight into this. Fernando |

Yes, the render will include any plugins in your mastering chain. What preset are you using in the L1? Try the 'trackslammer' setting and be sure and raise the output ceiling to the level of output you desire. Why not try -0.1 and let me know what you get. It should raise the level in your mixer master track in Acid as well to just below the 0 threshold. Make sure your master in Acid doesn't peak above 0 BEFORE you apply the L1. See if this gets you any closer. |
