Subject:Audio Glitches at the Track seams problem

I'd appreciate any help with this question: I have a 600Mb wav file which is a continuous live recording. As a final step I convert the Markers into Regions and Extract the Regions to become the individual tracks wav files. I then write the individual wav files to CDR using DAO so there's no gap between the tracks. Occasionally, there is an noticable "pop" sound where the tracks join, but only on a few of the track seams, not all of them. This glitch is not present when I play the undivided wav file using SForge. I've written the exact same set of individual wav files to CDR using Nero and EZCD and the problem remains. I've also written the CDR at different burning speeds; no better. If I nudge the Markers a bit in the 600Mb wav file and repeat the process of Markers->Regions and Extracting the Regions, that sometimes fixes the problem, but not always. As an experiment, I moved the troublesome Marker noticeably farther away from its original spot and the problem moved along with the Marker to its new location. I have a new 40X TDR burner and am using the latest verions of SForge and Nero. Any ideas? Thanks. |

What you are probably hearing is the fact that tracks on a CD are written in "frames" of 1/75 of a second. If the end of a track doesn't completely fill it's frame, the rest of the frame is filled out with silence. You may be hearing these very brief silences as a pop. |

The new version of CD Architect may be your fix. Although I have not heard the 'pop' you speak of, I am running the TDK 48x burner. When opening some of my older CDA 4.0 files, CDA 5 automatically corrects for the off-mark frames, and will give you a message that it corrected the problem. Download the beta and see if your problems continue. I'd be curious to hear about the results. |

I tried writing the CDR using the CD Architect Beta. It is giving me a "validation error" message about Track 1 having a pause time of 3 seconds. This apparently causes the PQ list to fail. I went to Disc/Read Subcodes/Full Disc Scan and that operation failed due to an "invalid argument". I'm not real sure what all of this means. |

Ok, I think I know what CD Arch wants: I took the aggregate wav file and converted Markers to Regions and saved the wav file in that state. I then added that wav file to the timeline alone in CD Arch and chose "Tools/Create Tracks from Media Regions". The glitch has disappeared and all the track seams are now perfect. I guess this is a nice feature since you can skip the SoFo process of Extracting Regions to Files. I didn't spend a lot of time here, but it wasn't clear to me how to add several individual wav files to the Timeline in CD Arch and have no gaps between the tracks. I'd rather have a solution which doesn't require me to buy CD Arch, so I don't know if this is the only solution. I have lots of live CDRs people have given me that were burned using Nero and EZCD and they don't have this audio problem. The argument above about the frames confuses me. If change the size of my regions (by moving the Markers), shouldn't the problem go away (maybe after several tries)? thanks for the help |
