Subject:anyone having this problem with ASIO + 4.0a ?

I sent this to tech support and they couldn't shed any light. All I got was a crappy response about turning down video acceleration and updating my drivers. Since when did a "Customer Relations Representative" handle technical support issues? I need a REAL answer. this system is tweaked to perfection and is only used for audio. if anyone else is having this problem let it be a known compatibility issue.

for some reason the asio driver (propagamma usb-asio) for the
U2A has never worked properly with acid pro 4.0.

the buffer settings and the asio clock setting in the advanced audio
config screen in acid never match the unit's asio control panel.

even at the lowest buffer setting in the asio control panel for the U2A
(relaxed mode-input 15ms/output 123ms)with internal asio clock, the acid
config screen says: 23ms/external clock. they never reflect the same settings.

i never really get the quality asio performance like I do in emagic logic 5 or
even orion pro. in logic I just set the asio driver once and forget
about it, but in acid 4.0 I get more latency and some crackles. I’m constantly having to shuffle between audio drivers while working. ASIO should be a set once and forget thing. there seems to be some incompatibility.

please address this issue, asio support was one of the main reasons I
bought 4.0.

btw-I am using the latest asio drivers from the manufacturer- the ones
suggested for xp sp1 compatibility and they work perfectly in other programs.

Windows Version: xp home sp1

RAM: 512mb ddr

Processor Speed: 1.8ghz P4

Sound Card: egosys u2a

thanks guys.

I hear ya!
The asio seems to be taking a lot of process...I'd like to be able to set it and forget about it...
not having to switch between asio and mme everytime I want to record a VSTi(wich is by the way impossible when u have 20 tracks and some FX)
Anyway ,lets hope.

We are attempting to get one of these devices in to have a look.

Some ASIO devices do not tell the host when you make changes in the drivers ASIO control pannel. Some require that you exit their control pannel before they send a notification to the host.

After you make the changes in the UA2's ASIO control pannel, click the refresh button in ACID's advanced audio page for ASIO drivers. This should force ACID to refresh the ASIO driver and get the current driver settings.

Really? By definition of the ASIO spec, both the input and output buffer sizes must be the same for a given driver. That is if the buffer setting is 100 ms for output, then the input buffer MUST be 100ms.

I looked on the Ego Sys web site for what "relaxed mode-input" means and couldn't find any description. I don't know what the U2A is doing here. Will have to ask them.

thanks for your response peter. it's nice to know someone is actually adressing this kind of stuff instead of "sweeping it under the rug".

ESI (formerly ego-sys) doesn't really make their usb drivers. it's licensed from propagamma, who basically make all the usb asio drivers for everyone.

check them out at usb-audio.com it's the same asio driver and control panel for each manufacturer (edirol/roland, yamaha, swissonic, digidesign, etc.) i figured someone else with a usb audio interface has to be encountering the same problems.

in the asio control panel under "system performance" it has six different modes (highspeed, fast, normal, normal+mme, and relaxed). each mode has different input and output latency values. i'm not sure if this refers to the buffer size or just the latency of the buffer.

also in acid 4.0a the asio clock setting always says external no matter if i select "internal" or "digital in" on the clock source tab in the asio control panel.

are we talking apples and oranges here or is this stuff not communicating properly?

if the asio driver works seamlessly in other programs (logic, orion, nuendo, etc.) i shouldn't have any problems with acid 4.0a in theory...unless it's something on your end.

i'll try my other usb audio interface (edirol ua-1) with the asio driver. if you guys have a usb device laying around please test this out and let us know what's up. there's a demo of the propagamma driver at usb-audio.com

thanks

I use an M-Audio USB Duo, which is also an external USB audio interface. It can use ASIO or WDM. ASIO does not give me problems unless I set the latency too high or too low (the latency has to be just right, usually around 10ms at 44.1 kHz) and my ACID project is really busy. WDM does not give me such problems.

Thanks for the info. I am getting this driver and will let you know what I find out.

Thanks

peter, any word on the compatability issue? i'd just like to know if this is a known issue, then i'll just stop trying to use vsti in acid and wait for 4.0b or c.

thanks,
