Cannot record multiple tracks with Vegas and RPC-1 audio card from Midiman (comes in Roland Studio Pack with VM-3100 Pro digital mixer)

I have done extensive research on this problem in many different forums and support sites on the internet and have found no one in my situation who has come to a resolution. I'm hoping someone can help me.

The sound card I use is the RPC-1 from Midiman. (I have updated the drivers to the latest version made for Windows XP.) This was included as part of the Roland Studio Pack from the Roland Corporation. This package also included the VM-3100 Pro digital mixer and allows for the recording of up to 8 mono (or 4 stereo) tracks into the computer at once. It is a great value for use in the home studio and I know many would benefit by being able to use it with Vegas.

My problem is that I cannot record multiple tracks any more into Vegas through this sound card. I used it to record multiple tracks without problems when I used Windows Millenium Edition. I have a new computer now, however, and no longer have access to WinME. I REALLY need this aspect of Vegas to work with this sound card, or I'm going to be forced to go to different software. I do not want to do this as I have been a long-time, dedicated user of Sonic Foundry products.

I still can record one stereo track (or 2 mono) at a time with no problems. However, when I attempt to arm a second track to record, I get the following error message: "An error occurred while recording. An unsupported media type was requested." Clicking the details button shows the following information: "The record device Roland RPC-1 5/6 does not support the current input format."

I also tried to do this with Vegas 2.0 LE and got the following details: "Record device does not support the current input format."

Does anyone have any suggestions? I've contacted Compaq, Roland and Midiman but no one can figure out what is wrong here. I really need this to work. This is our only means of bringing audio into our computer and we use this setup for our business. Any assistance that can be offered will be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hi,

Yes, you are correct. There is no resolution for this problem. I am also using XP but can not record more then 2 tracks at once to the Vm3100 pro or to my VSR-880. This is not acceptable and SF hasn't done anything about it.

I have not yet written Roland or M-Audio, I will be doing this shortly though. The sad thing is that the RPC-1 card doesn't have much, if any, market share. I doubt it is high on their priority list.

For all the cool features SF puts in their products, this is a deal breaker. I would recomend getting something like Cubase that actually supports the card, quite well I might add.

Ditto. I have the same problem. I contacted M-Audio and they said the drivers were in the works. Who knows, really though. Good news is the new Roland Studio Pack uses the same card. So that ups our chances at the card's driver getting updated faster. This is primarily a driver issue and not a SF issue. It worked in 98, not XP. This indicates that the M-audio "beta xp" driver is not signed (which it isn't) and furthermore not supported by M-Audio or anyone else. I may change my hardware. Sad to say since I like the hardware.

Roland is now claiming that they have recieved sonic foundry software to test the problem. We all need to keep pressing them to get this resolved!
Thanks.

Yes. I really want to see this resolved. Who should I press most? I've called all three companies (M-audio, Sofo, and Roland) in the past. I just emailed Sonic Foundry yesterday. Do we know what the problem is exactly? Someone on the Yahoo users group for the Roland Studio Pack (which contains the RPC card) just posted this:

"The problem, as I understand it, is that Vegas supports only MME
(Wave)drivers. The RPC-1 98 driver uses MME drivers which work fine,
but the 2000 & xp drivers use WDM drivers. WDM drivers have
something called 'Wave Emulation' which Vegas recognizes as MME
drivers. There is apparently a problem with the WDM drivers for the
RPC-1 card (as well as other M-Audio cards). The problems I had
were: in 2000 it lost sync & had clock issues & in XP, I could only
record from one pair of inputs at a time. As I mentioned in the other
post, I think they are working on this as we speak."

Hopefully there will be a resolution to this soon. I absolutely REFUSE to use any other software that Vegas. Sonic Foundry's gotten me hooked on their stuff. But, unfortunately, right now I can't get anything done since it's not working.

If anyone gets new information, please keep me updated. Thanks!
