how do I record from multiple inputs

coplinger wrote on 9/2/2002, 7:58 AM
I have a Roland RPC-1 card with 8 inputs. Vegas will only allow me to record from one pair of inputs at a time. When I try to arm a track with a different pair of inputs selected, I get this error: "An unsupported media type was requested. The recording device Roland RPC-1 does not support the current input format." I have Windows Classic Wave Driver selected & Roland RPC-1 Multichannel as the default recording device. I have read in a few places that there is a way to record from multiple inputs by going to options->preferences->routings, but for me there is no 'routings' tab on the preferences page, nor can I find a mention of it in the help files. Any help would be much appreciated.

I suggest it is a driver issue. You are selecting the input ports by right-clicking the 'Arm' button, aren't you ?

yes

This is a problem M-Audio(midiman) and Sonic Foundry *REALLY* need to work out. You will not find a ``routing'' tab in versions of Vegas past 2.0 it simply doesn't exist.

I think I may have talked midiman into looking into this one. If anyone here has had this same problem with Vegas & RPC-1 (or another M-Audio card) please contact daves@midiman.net & let him know. Thanks.

I just upgraded my system, and encountered the same problem with my RPC-1 card. I love the mixer and card both and would hate to trade them in, but I may have to. I contacted M-Audio and they informed me that they were working on a new driver, but I don't know wether to believe them or not. I attempted to use 98b but I ran into several driver problems on the new PC. What a headache. I wish they'd get thier stuff together. People will be buying the new Roland Studio Pack (advertised as xp compliant) with the same RPC-1 card. Then there will be more unhappy people.

I ended up on windows 2000, but there are still some driver glitches (loses sync). I am hoping Vegas 4 will have ASIO support & that will solve these problems. I believe RPC-1 is xp compliant, but only using the ASIO drivers.

It's a thought. I have tried everything. My new PC has such new hardware that I can't get 98b to recognize all the hardware and use it properly. So downgrading is not an option. Acid pro 4 seems to be working with the driver. Hopefully Vegas 4 will be up soon.

Win2000 drivers let me down too. I finally got fed up & reinstalled 98se. No problems now. You could always use another software with ASIO support to record, then open the tracks in Vegas to edit & mix. You could also consider replacing the hardware that 98 won't recognize, or setting up a dual boot system with the new hardware disabled in the 98 hardware profile.

I assume XP is not a possibility due to driver issues ?

If not why look backwards toward the old 98SE and flawed W2K ? XP has proved to be stable and efficient, and is the focus of new develpment and current support effort.

I'm not going to look back at windows 98. XP is more stable and now that I have tweeked the hell out of it I like it! Windows 98 won't support all of my new hardware and let's face it, 98 will be phased out eventually just like 95 was. I just hope we get this issue figured out before I have to buy new hardware, which is a strong possibility at this point.

Roland is now working on this issue. They have recieved software from Sonic Foundry to help resolve this issue. If you want to get the phone # to call to help press the issue, email me at glyptic@mcleodusa.net .

Yes. This is the same place I'm stuck at. It is actually IMPOSSIBLE for me to use an operating system older than WinXP because my computer was built for WinXP and won't work with an older OS. (Believe me, I tried.) I really hope this gets resolved. I love using Vegas and can't imagine using anything else.
