Subject:recording in acid 4.0

I recently replaced mu haddrive with a larger one. And upgraded to Acid 4.0. Since then, when I bring up the recording window in Acid 4.0, I can see the monitor level rise as if there is a noise on the line. I have disconnected all equipment... no change... muted all of the volume/ recording properties... and still no change. If I do record, I end up with a squal that rises past the point of clipping. Does anyone have any suggestions ?

Are you using Wave Classic Drivers or ASIO?

What OS are you running?

What sample rate and bit depth are you trying to record at?

damn... didn't know that you were tech support !! But you hit it on the bit depth. It was set to 24bit, which I guess the SB will not do. I set it to 16bit and it is working now. Thanks !!

If you are using Win2000, there is a bug in the OS (kmixer) that prevents 24 bit recording and causes the exact symptoms that you describe.

We worked with MS to correct this problem, and they did fix it. I believe that Microsoft has released a service pack that fixes this issue.

Some F.Y.I.: The Audigy does 16-bit/48 kHz internally. If you try to record/playback at different resolutions and sample rates, the Audigy will have to convert on the fly, potentially causing problems.

I wish Creative would be a little more forthcoming about the specs for their cards. That way, users won't feel so cheated. 24-bit should be 24-bit.
