Problems Problems Problems

I would like to state first that i love VV and hope i never have to use another video editing program, with that said here's my problem...
For the past month no matter what i try i can't get VV to play/make a video.
I rip my film from my sony using ImageMixer(never had a problem doing this, rips in mpg)and do my editing with VV.
No matter what video i load into VV it starts out fine, audio and video but with-in a few sec the video is gone and all i get is a black screen, then it will come back on for a sec then go black, over and over(black screen stays around for about 5 sec then video for about 2 sec).
I've uninstalled VV, no good, i've changed my drivers(ATI AIW 8500dv)(and yes i know about ATI's problem from before, i had to back up on the driver about a month ago because it would crash my system).
Even with old ATI drivers that use to work fine, they don't help none.
I havn't changed anything(driver wise) since it was working fine.
I've unistalled everything that was installed after the problem but still it's there.
I've went back to the 2.3 drivers because the older older older drivers are doing the same still yet.
If anyone can help please do.....thanks

Win2k
MSI MB with 512 ddr
8500dv
SB live Audigy

All the drivers are updated and if anyone who reads this still doesn't understand what i'm saying i can make a small sample....thanks again

do any files other than your ripped mpegs exhibit this behavior?
joebno wrote on 10/10/2002, 10:53 PM
Any other changes? I was having similar problems, finally turned out to be a changed setting for prerender files - my HD couldn't keep up and kept "skipping" the video.
Slobra98 wrote on 10/11/2002, 1:58 AM
All my video files are doing it, avi, mpg, anything.
It's not skipping, just goes black and the hdd i'm using has a 4meg buffer, it's never had a problem before(i say in the past 5 months it hasn't).

The video goes black inside Vegas or when viewing on an external montitor?

Maybe start with a defrag of all drives?
Slobra98 wrote on 10/11/2002, 10:29 AM
I wish all i had to do was defrag and it would fix it but i've already tried that...
I have noticed something though...
When the screen goes black, if i pause the film then hit play, it will have picture but go right back out to a black screen.
I guess i'm going to see if the 4in1 via drivers are the cause, thats one thing i havn't tried, probley isn't the problem but who knows.
Slobra98 wrote on 10/11/2002, 3:33 PM
Ok, the 4in1 drivers are not the problem but i have found a fix...
I hate to say it but i'm moving to a different program, i still love VV and always will but none of the other editing programs have this problem.

Hey! if you want to get rid of your VV3c, I know a couple of people who would give it a lovely new house in their HD. ;)

Before giving up, I would suggest first to do a clean OS installation...always works for me for anykind of "sticky" problems.
Slobra98 wrote on 10/14/2002, 12:19 AM
Na, i can't see me formating just to fix VV?!?!
All the other editing programs are doing just fine, it has to be some VV/driver conflict.
Welcome to the wonderful world of computing =)

Sounds very similar to the problem I have (see my post from this am). I did do a fresh install of the OS before installing VV3.0c.
sonicboom wrote on 10/14/2002, 11:26 PM
i second that!!
i had problems too (possibly a corrupted codec issue)
i formated my computer and VV3 worked like a charm
roxio--ez cd creator messed my computer up--they have subsequently fixed their drivers
midiman messed me up too--spotted eagle told me in NYC vast tour they fixed their drivers--but....i aint taking any chances
anyway, i am really glad i formated my computer
it took a few hours---but it was worth it!!
because i love vv3 so much, i bought a DELL computer in feb for $599 and use it for one thing--VV3
slobra----format your computer---it has worked for so many people
you will be glad you did
vegas can do wonderful things---
you'll be glad you did

I just don't see me formating my computer just to fix VV when all the other editing programs are working.
I am backing up my video's as fast as i can but backing up around 85gigz of video's gets real old real quick.
For now i will use the other and by the time i use VV, maybe i'll figure out my problem.
Honestly, i believe a codec maybe the reason i'm having this problem, not 100% sure but it's has to be something.
One other thing i'm looking at is, before i connected my firewire to my SB but started using my 8500dv firewire port, could be the reason.
I've had lots of small problems with ATI, nothing big, i think next time i'll skip ati and try using a real video editing card.

To anyone that was reading this post, i figured out the problem...
Sony's ImageMixer was the cause!
I know i should be pissed but i'm so happy i can keep using VV i don't know what to do, guess i'm go make some video's with the best damn editing program on the planet....hehe...sorry i'm very happy right now!

Cheers!

How 'bout the details?

How did ya figure it out?

wondering, MPH

Hey! great News !!! happy for you man...but I still think you would have enjoyed re-formating your hard disk...hehehe
Paul_Holmes wrote on 10/17/2002, 6:16 AM
I agree with shaunn. I reformat my OS drive at least once every four months just for the fun of it!
