Hi, I seem to be having a few problems with Acid, namely that when I try and use the Oasys ASIO 2.0 divers when I play a project all i seem to get is LOUD white noise. Any ideas? Anyone using the Oasys with Acid? thanks TS |

Also, Having done a bit more research if you check the Korg Oasys yahoo group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oasys-pci/ there are a fwe posts about Oasys compatability and the type of Asio implementation used etc.... I noticed something when using the filter automation as well. In use, for a lot of filter work you are only using the bottom 1-5% of the track most of the time. I'e' low pass filtering of a bassline. This can make making changes (filter sweeps etc) quite difficult. Any chance of adopting a similar format as you have done with the eq views for the SF eq's i.e. 0-1000hz takes up almost as much room (in this case track height) as 1000-20,000 hz... This would make using the filter much easier... Cheers TS PS |

Still looking into it. Korg has not responded as of yet. As soon as we know anything, we will post the information here. Peter |

thanks peter, i have another question. Someone here said that they think that ACID 4 sounds better than 3. Has the summing algo(s) been updated? Or the audio engine? kind regards TS |

Most of the mix engine is new. ASIO also has a lot to do with it. ASIO is a direct path to the hardware. When using Wave drivers that are based on WDM, the OS KMixer touches all the audio buffers. We have no control over this. Anytime something touches the audio buffers something can happen to the quality. Peter |

Peter: Fill me in, ASIO vs WDM wouldn't affect the render itself, would it? Just while playing back, huh? I can understand that you have reworked the engine to work with ASIO, though. TeeCee |

Correct. Rendering is totatly seperatated from the hardware. We didn't have to rework the audio engine for ASIO per se. ASIO is just a driver model. I still reads/requests buffers of data. We had to optimize the audio engine to keep up with the lower buffering requirements of ASIO. Rendering is just that: We render audio into a buffer. Whether that buffer goes to hardware in realtime or to a disk file (Wave, AIF, MP3, etc) the audio is rendered the same. It has to be, otherwise it would sound different between the rendered file and the playback (excluding what the Kmixer may or may not do to the signal when rendering to the audio card.) Oh, and all 32 bit floating point mixing. Peter |
