No multiple VST output? Is this feature coming? |

There is no plan to incorporate this into version 4.0. Peter |

You could just create a duplicate of a certain soft synth with different parameters and assign that to a different MIDI track. A little cluttered? Yeah, but at least there's a workaround. Iacobus |

Well..I guess that would work, but CPU usage would go through the roof. I want this function for Battery. So that I can send my kick, snare, toms, and cymbals all out to seperate busses for processing and mixing. And to be quite frank, I am using so many "workarounds" inside this app right now that I am kinda sorry I committed what little budget I have to it. I bought Battery specifically to use inside Acid. I also bought a very expensive sample library to use with it. That totals almost 400 dollars that I cant really use efficiently yet. Why cant i use it? Because the piano roll is a mess as of now. Memory leak when playing inside of it (to be fixed in 4.0b- whenever that is) and the keys dont match up with the cells in Battery (earlier thread- appears i need to do some euro conversion on the fly for this). Man, I just need to see some fixes here, fast. I hope they have learned from this...BETA BETA BETA!!! |

It would be a really useful feature, especially for programmed drum tracks etc. I urge everyone to fill in the product suggestion form, so that hopefully this feature gets implemented eventually. I imagine it would be a lot of work to add this, and to make it as user-friendly as we've come to expect from Sonic Foundry. |

justified, As I mentioned before, the only apps in which Battery's labels match up are Logic and Cubase. The same "mental shift on the fly" must be made in most other applications. I agree that being able to edit the labels on the keys would be useful, but working without it really hasn't caused me any grief at all. I just enable real-time MIDI, turn on preview in the Piano Roll, and click away. If I'm ever unsure as to where the sample I want is, I just draw the note, then click and drag it up or down until the sample I desire sounds. Personally, I don't think I would find it any easier to do "real world" work on a piano roll with labels. I would still have to click and drag to make my decision between the various kicks, high hats, crashes, etc in my Battery kits. The memory leak issue will be corrected with 4.0b As for CPU usage, running multiple instances of Battery uses a little bit more RAM, and creates only a small amount of extra CPU overhead. It's a pretty efficient little sampler. I know it's not the "most efficient" way to work, but how often does the creative process follow efficient paths? I know a project I am currently working on at home uses 4 or 5 different synths just to give me the kick, hat, snare, and other percussion sounds I want. Now, I could sample each synth and load everything into Battery or the DR-008, but I like to tweak too much for that. The project uses a couple of loops and samples, 14 VSTi's, and 25+ MIDI tracks and I'm still only at 50% CPU usage on my PIII 1gig. Not too bad in my opinion. Nate |

no, I guess it's not too bad but that would bring my PC to it's knees and I got twice the specs you just named...what, is your project like 8 bars long or something? |

12 minutes and counting... The machine it's currently on isn't my fastest, but it's doing a fine job: PIII 1 gig Asus mobo 512MB RAM, all PC133 3 drives on the board's ATA66 IDE chains SIIG ATA66 card with a couple more hard drives and some CD-ROM's on it SBLive Value running KX drivers old Voodoo 3 video card running some drivers hacked for XP generic NIC optimized WinXP That's about it... Keep in mind that some synths eat a lot more CPU time than others. Only a few of the ones I am using are really greedy. Also, because I'll always be in love with raw synth sounds, I'm only using Track EQ's and a couple of light reverbs as effects. Which synths and effects are you using that are hauling down your performance so much? Nate |

"As for CPU usage, running multiple instances of Battery uses a little bit more RAM, and creates only a small amount of extra CPU overhead. It's a pretty efficient little sampler. I know it's not the "most efficient" way to work, but how often does the creative process follow efficient paths?" SonicNate- I appreciate your response. But your solution is not going to work for me. The sample set I use in Battery consists of 41 pads. Each loaded with between 2 and 11 velocity layers. And this is just for the close mics! There is another set with the same amount for room mics. In order to route to seperate busses with 4.0 I would need to load 8 instances of battery rather than two. Sure I could trim down the kits so that each respective instance only contains the samples needed for that specific midi track...but this PC isnt going to have any of that. I also noticed that the piano roll will only allow me to view one midi track at a time. Can you imagine working on the kick track and then programming snare without being able to view the other tracks? I know 4.0 has no plans for multiple outputs. Fine. I can cope. BUT...are there plans on making the piano roll display multiple tracks simultaneously? |
