Subject:What is the best reverb plug-in?

Your opinions please. What is the best reverb plug in (DX) out there. The application is for fingerstyle steel-string acoustic guitar. I've been working with the SFoundry reverbs, but would like to see what others are available. I have also been tinkering around with the Ozone 2 mastering plug in. Frequency roll-off is a must, as I want to apply reverb to highs and attenuate reverb on the lows.

Acoustic Mirror sounds very good but takes a lot of expermenting. Anwida also makes a nice sounding plug-in. The light version used to be free and still may be. Waves is also very good but pricey. Lexicon is one of the best in outboard reverbs, I assume their plug-ins sound very good. I have yet to hear a plug-in that sounds as good as a high quality outboard unit.

You must try Ultrafunk's reverb. I don't use waves stuff but I hear from others that do that it is comparable to waves in quality. Best part is it's only about $50. I found RGC's room verb to be very natural sounding and it is free.

TC Native reverb is a good one, and Timeworks are pretty good too on the inexpensive side.

Wavearts Masterverb has gotten some good reviews. Moderately priced at $150. I think its ok but frankly the DX verbs have a very long way to go yet. I've got a Lexicon PCM 80 and I haven't found any plugin verb that even comes close. I have the Waves bundles, Masterverb, UltraFunk, and a folder full of others that I only use on things that won't show the limitations of these things. This is one of the primary reasons that I'm still using an outboard mixer. ;-)

Couldn't agree with you more drbam. I think you should try the TC Native reverb though, this is the closest thing I've heard in software that resembles a Lexicon PCM 90. I use it all the time when I start to run out of my hardware effects units. It's always my first choice of software reverbs, except when I'm running low on CPU horse power, then I'll grab the Timeworks 4080L.

Thanks for your comments on this Red. I will definitely check out the TC verb. Obviously there are many times when I need more than one *pro qualtiy* verb running. When mixing multitrack sessions, I've generally taken the tedious step of recording the PCM 80 return to a separate Vegas track rather than compromise the overall sonic presence with a lesser quality verb. I record a lot of ambient material where the verb is used more like another instrument as opposed to just a "signal processor" that adds a bit of space or dimension. Especially with ethnic instruments like flutes, udu and clay pot percussion, overtone/harmonic singing, etc, the verb serves as the foundational "holding space" for these sounds. This type of approach will make a verb's limitations stand out like crazy! ;-)

Accoustic mirror is truly one of the best reverbs out there. other than that I use Waves TrueVerb and Rverb. Pretty low on cpu and sound fantastic.

I have a midiverb unit and a behringer virtualizer, and I still love the sounds of those reverbs, (and my trusty roland guitar pedal LOL) but I would say that the waves plugins blow them away if you use them correctly. If you dont have the 1000+ for all the waves plugins, Siverspike's reverb.it is really nice..

the cool edit reverbs are VERRY VERRY nice...not DX tho :(

I would suggest not using acoustic mirror realtime.. it seems to be VERY CPU intensive and I really wish there would be a really good impulse using reverb for windows, like altiverb, but thats for mac....

Whatever you do,

DO

NOT

USE

Sonic foundry's REVERB.

it suxxx, no offense... this plugin needs to greatly improve.

You guys are great at audio editors.... multitrack, looping.... but not reverb.
