Is there an alternative midi editor for use inside 4.0? Like a different piano roll? This midi editor needs too much work to use right now. |

Not now, no. You'll either have to get used to the status quo, or wait for some third-party OPT editors to be released. Speaking of which, would you buy an OPT plugin that would allow you to edit MIDI data on a grand staff, like Noteworthy or Finale? I'm thinking about writing either Noteworthy or Coda to see if they've entertained this idea, but I'd like to know if others would be interested in the same. - Nick |

I dont read music :). BUT....I would be very interested in trying alternatives to the piano roll we have here that are not notation based. If I could use Sonars PR...I would be king midi. |

are you guys saying you want to edit midi in a looping app? thats like waxing a floor with a paintbrush. it may help but you've got to use the right tool to get the job done properly. |

Like...what? I get what I want from what there is already. :) (Then again, I'm not really picky when it comes to MIDI.) Iacobus |

Ditto on not being picky. For my typical digital compositions, I usually do a lot of sweeping texture work with a few leads, so piano roll works just fine as is. But for larger, more traditional compositions (like classical, 20th century, and contemporary jazz), I write sheet music in NoteWorthy Composer. Afterward I end up exporting it as a MIDI file, importing into Acid, slapping on an orchestral VSTi and edit away. It's not too bothersome of a process since I work in a very linear fashion, and I don't ever have to go back to NoteWorthy for any major edits. However, I think it'd be great to use NoteWorthy as an OPT plugin, since most my compositions end up in Acid anyway. Additionally, as a total music theory nut (read: psycho), I really dislike editing MIDI in the piano roll, even simple stuff, because it's counter-intuitive for me. For reading horizontally (for rhythmic purposes) you can't beat it, but for reading vertically to spot and indulge in the chord progressions, cadences, and modulations, piano roll is like trying sing Mozart with solfedge, or give a speech in Morse code. Counter-intuitive. The price I pay for being a renaissance man and wanting the best of both worlds. =) But again, that's just my style. It's okay to wax the floor with a paintbrush if most of your floor is carpet. - Nick |

ok just... so why bang your head on an experiment instead of using a proven tool. and martina... that sounds like a good idea |

I hear you all loud and clear. I'm with you. But I really want this to work. I have done SX demos and Sonar too. My main focus is adding VST for drum parts to my Acid projects. The other apps I tried (quite extensively) just were not for me. So until this thing gets refined a bit more I will use workarounds and anything else I can to make it happen. 4.0b is on the way and alot of issues will be addressed. I realize alot of you just want to count your losses and move on, but I think i'll be hanging around on this one. Like I said...I really want this to work. I'm sick of using 3 apps for every project. If these bugs go away, I'll be left with only two, Vegas and Acid. |

i don't know guys... i've gotten used to using 4-7 apps on a project. each has its own specialy and those that claim to do all come short. acid is a great looping tool and thats all i use it for. if i tried to run vsti, midi and plugins on acid i would be disapponited in its performance because its true specialty is looping. its like pulling a boat with a bicycle: nothing but stress. |
