Hi,

Just got the new acid was wondering about a few things. With VSTi's does the automation work the same as fx, i.e. you get a list of automatable parameters?

What about automation for cc#'s? Can you use envelopes to automate cc#s? Also there is no possibility to change from Velocity to say pitchbend in the lower portion of the screen as in Cubase. is this taken care of via envelopes?

Sorry loads of quesions but need to know :-)

Cheers

TS

PS Anyone using it with UAD1 and or oasys?

Twinstates,

All automation of VST instruments in ACID is done through CC info. Unfortunately, we didn't get the time to add envelope automation for them (like DX FX have) or CC editing into our piano roll. For now, there are two ways I have been doing things:

1) Record/sequence your MIDI track, then record a new track of yourself tweaking your controller live. ACID will be playing your VSTi while you record, so you can hear your tweaks in real-time.

2) Edit your CC info in either the list editor or in another MIDI editor. There are a few nice standalone MIDI editors out there. I'm sure that someone here can point you to their favorites. Also, from what I've heard there are a couple of very functional OPT editors in the works that will make using an external editor for MIDI unnecessary as soon as they hit the market.

Hope this helps,
Nate

So you can't do it presently?

Imo that is a very basic requirement.

Is this going to be added soon?

He just told you how to do it. You just can't use envelopes or the piano roll editor.

but as twinstates said this is a very basic requirement and nate saying they didnt have time to put it into the program is tantamount to a full admission that acid 4 wasnt/isnt ready to market but nevermind someone sometime will eventually design a pro opt editor that will finish our loverly halfbaked program for us eh! i hope its soon .the midi as i may have said before is rubbish why didnt sf just get someone who really knew how to write good midi code instead of putting out a fairly toytown version i would like to know that it is afterall sf second pop at midi afterall i would have thought pride in your work alone would have got at least the cc info right after acid 3s laughable and i do mean laughable attempt at midi
dont hold your breath twinstates!

if SoFo did it (automation) with DX plugins they will also do it with Vsti, technically its very similar although most Vsti have much more parameters than DX plugs.

Automating the most relevant parameters of Vsti would be great already.

Tee Cee,

point, but have you ever tried editing cc# data on an list edit page. It's not fun and it's certainly not intuitive. I certainly don't expect to have to do it using another app.

My enthusiasm for acid 4 was that finally I could use VSTi's and automatefx without having to bounce into Logic or Cubase.

Seems that that is not the case....

or it is but that we have to use somehting else 9am just gonna check Nate's link...

Cheers for the nfo nate.

Also please clarify, will envelope automation be included for VSTi's soon?

some of these plugs have up to 200 or more adjustable parameters (Fm7 by native instruments comes to mind here) .. so it is a lot more comples than Dx Automation for FX plugins...

But I defiently say that SOfo MUST incorporate this into the next update!!!

(if they have time with all the debugging and such)

dont wait till version 5 to do this!!!!!
