Ok, when I use 3+ MIDI files on Acid Pro 4.0a the files start changeing. Changeing as in the sound changes. Also, when the loop is done playing it umm still plays maybe the last part of the file... forever. I messed with the MIDI device preferences and the sync options yet no luck. Help!! :[

I have the same problem - I don't recommend messing w/ midi settings unless you fixed it :-)) then, if so, pass it on. I found I had to mute the offending bus, do my work, save and restart my computer- now this is with a Amd 1800+, 512mb ram etc etc except I have an Audigy card and I think that is the culprit- something is not letting it release when the midi stops. Sorry no more help then this - but maybe you can check your sound card like I will and we can get this to work. Hopefully...

Well theres a simple way to get around the problem. Simply put your MIDI file in acid and save it as a audio file eg. mp3. Its just weird though, some will sound right if I apply them to the MIDI oringal driver and some may sound wack if I add it to DLS soft synth OR vice versa and of course the never ending loop occurs too. Either way if about 3+ MIDI are used it gets screwy. I wonder if this is a new reported problem because a SF engineer emailed me about this.
It seems like Acid Pro 4.0a is still in beta construction, why of why have they realeased it? Welp last night I got Sonar 2 XL by cakewalk which by the way, kicks ass. Sonar 2 XL roxors Acid.

Hey ViX -

Yeah I forgot that one- I tried your suggestion and rendered back to wave as in RENDER TO NEW TRACK command. What a pain though when you think about it, it cuts down on Midi functionability (is that a word?) Anyway it is a great stop gap measure - I think the problem for me, is in my ASIO drivers and sound card (Creative Audigy) and this is using the latest drivers as of 8/2002. I hate to switch to another mapper driver since I got the sync down perfect- so again thanks for the heads up and reminder of rendering back as a new track. BTW - any good recommendations for a better card maybe - or maybe Acid 4xx will fix the problem.
:-))

I doubt its your sound card. Acid 4a just sux, plain and simple :). Acid 4xx should fix the problem one of these days. I found new problem with converting your whole acid tracks to audio, eg. saving your whole song to mp3. Acid decides to ummm skip the first ten seconds and cut out some MIDI tracks. Oh yes, Acid sux so much it makes me wonder why SF is still a company hahaha.... Oh well, like I said I'm using Sonar 2 XL now any who.

I'm not sure exactly what you are experiencing. I have a project I've been building here with 18 MIDI tracks running through 11 different soft synths (including a DLS synth) and I'm not seeing random changes or anything of the sort.

Could you give me a specific example of what is happening?

Nate-
Well I have no intentions to switching "horses in mid stream (as in changing programs) but i might have to add another to the fold so to speak to achieve what I need, speaking from an audio reference :-)) but the problem I have is this -
When using the dls synths in anything other then a soft synth drum sequence - the notes being played will hang up on one tone and stay sounding throughout the playback. Of course it will stop when you hit the STOP button but when you continue with PLAY it will continue also. The only thing to do is MUTE the bus. But then that has consequences - like hearing the whole piece tied together...

What I do is shut the program down and re start (and save and resave often.) I beleive it is a problem with the sound card /drivers for same. I am using the latest drivers (ASIO) from Creative Labs for their Audigy Platinum EX. so here is my machines/program specs

ACID 4.0a _set up for ASIO - Latency set at 10ms (no problem there I don't think) driver dates 8/2002. 48000 hz rate set as SOP.

Machine - AMD 1800+ Athalon, w/ 512MB Ram. Machine made by ABS which use a G7dx motherboard (amd 760 Northbridge VIA southbridge chips) Plenty of fee space on 60GB HD for swap file usage (VM), Nvidia gForce3 500TI Vid card and a CREATIVE LABS AUDIGY PLATINUM EX SOUND CARD (the culprit I believe). Of course I never had these problems with Acid Pro 3.0 (even one time running 70 tracks and 15 busses - I wanted to see if I could kill it- no it did not die - but my mouse did from all the scrolling.)

So I believe its the audio drivers- now what I want to know too WHAT KIND OF MACHINE AND CONFIGURATION YOU HAVE - he,he,he that runs 11 midi busses etc.etc.

Thanks. s/ dca

The "stuck notes" you describe are not something I have ever experienced with the DLS synth. When the notes "hang", do you still see the "hung" level on the meter for the DLS synth in ACID, or has it gone away? If I email you directly, could you send me a copy of the project you are having problems with?

For a description of the machine running the project I described (which has gotten more complex since), check my two posts in this thread:

Nate- Sorry i didn't get right back to you - My "real job" was the priority- anyway I can't give you an example- since I converted those tracks to wav files - but on the next project I will e-mail you if I duplicate the same problem. I believe the problem is with Creative Labs Audigy card and their ASIO drivers. BTW- I read the specs on your machine and nice machine- it seems like a good platform to run SF products. No overkill but gets the job done. Aslo BTW- my specs are simular and until now this is only problem I had w/ SF products- that is why I believe it is the sound card drivers since I am kinda pushing its limits. so to speak...
