Subject:Disappointed with 4.0

I just got the 4.0 upgrade and I couldn't wait to install it. Unfortunately, it is unusable on my rig. I'm crashing about every 10 minutes. I'm guessing it has to do with the ASIO drivers. The WDM drivers on Win2k for my Delta 2496 worked really well on 3.0.

Are any Audiophile users experiencing the same trouble with version 4.0?

1) Go to M-Audio and install the new drivers wich are supposed to fix the ASIO-problem (uninstall your old drivers before installing the new ones).
http://www.midiman.com/support/driversearch.php

2) Upgrade to Acid 4.0a. It fixes a number of bugs (though not all).

3) If you have Acid 3 installed, try removing it and then install Acid 4.

I'm having the same problems with 4.0a, and I'm using an SB Live! card (no wisecracks, please) with the WDM drivers. I've taken 4.0a off yet again, back to 4.0 (my first Acid purchase), but I'm not going to work in Acid anymore until another upgrade comes out.

I'm getting extraneous GUNSHOTS throughout my projects, sometimes when playing, sometimes when rendering, and never in the same place. Very loud gunshots. It's hurting my ears. And constant freeze-ups (yep, about every ten minutes) that Peter's recent recommendations to me did not fix--accompanied by a never-ending whine in both waves and midis. I've rebooted countless times in the last week.

I'll have to find something else to do with myself for a while. Thank heaven I managed to finish the project I was working on despite the problems. I'm hanging in there for the fix. I know they'll get it right eventually.

Dkistner,

Have you tried using the ASIO drivers? If so, what were the results? Is Acid the only program that exhibits this behavior? Also, do you have an older VIA chipset on your motherboard? It sounds like you could be having a bridge problem. Just a guess.

This a reply to the last three threads.

I did install, [hopefully] that last incarnation of the Delta drivers circa May 2002.
I also did install the 4.0a update. I'm still freezing at about the same intervals as before. However, I did try to use the "Classic Wave Driver" (I'm assuming it is MME or WDM?), and it seemed to mellow out somewhat.

I'm going to try a clean sweep with all of the recommendations so far.

There's so many features in this release, I can't wait to get it tuned. But, I know that with any new production release, major core feature changes introduce a lot of unknowns into the software.

BTW: Great Forum!

You need to obtain the beta drivers on MAudios web site. There are specifically labeld for ACID 4 use. It fixes a bug in the ASIO drivers. The name of the file is:

Delta_WDM_ACID40Fix_BETA.EXE

and can be located

http://www.midiman.com/support/driversearch.php

This is most likely the cause of your problems.

I'm pretty clean with Delta_wdm_510027.EXE. Should I be using the Beta?

Are you having problems?

The problem that was fixed by MAudio/MIDIMan was ASIO specfic. We are not aware of any issues when using the Delta series when in WDM/Wave mode.

Thanks, Peter. ACID with Absynth is very unstable, I know absynth has some problems of it's own, I have used both 131 and 133 versions, 134 rumored to be out soon.

Do you think Maudio's new driver would help with absynth? I also have Sonar, but have been focusing on ACID.

Thank you everybody.

The beta driver for the Delta 2496 did the trick.

I completely removed both the ACID 3.0 and 4.0 installations.
The beta driver had a deinstallation widget which performed
the previous driver removal.

Installed new 2496 driver.
Installed 4.0 from CD.
Installed 4.0a from Web.
Haven't crashed yet.

Are you using VSTi's or non SoFo DX plugs?

Currently, I am only using the plugins that came with Acid 3.0/4.0 and Sound Forge 5.0. I don't have any Steinberg products installed and I'm no longer using Sonar.
