What a crap !
Is this the future of Acid that we have to deal with amateurish 3rd party softmakers to "enhance" Acid features or fill up its deficits ?
I hope SoFo will include new features themselves (or rework their own OPT plugs) or perhaps some "real" companies release some good (halfway professional) OPT stuff.

Hmm...

While the interface wasn't quite what I am used to looking at, I found that The Swinger behaved exactly as it promised. They haven't implemented controlling it via CC info (yet?), but the "swing" function did what I expected it to.

I'm not sure why you are so upset, skysurfer. Isn't the point of third-party plug-ins to "enhance" the features of a piece of software, or give you alternatives to what the product has to offer?

There are "professional" companies working on OPT plug-ins, Yamaha has already released a couple that interface with their sequencers, and I'm sure more are on the way.

The fact that the first OPT plug on the market not written by a "professional" company works just fine in ACID, and does exactly what it's intended to do makes me optimistic about the future of OPT. It certainly didn't take GenieSys long to port over the basic functionality of this MIDI FX plug, and it works exactly as it's intended to. Personally I hope a ton more "amateur" plug-in coders release OPT plugs in the near future. The more diverse a plug-in market you have, the more likely you'll be able to find exactly what you want to use.

I'm looking forward to seeing more from OPT - so far it's very promising.

Incidentally, thanks v. much for the quantise features in 4.0a - they rock.

would it be possible to double or 'right click -> menu item' on a piece of MIDI in the timeline and have it come straight up in the piano roll? I'm finding the way at the moment is a bit of a long way round!

Been hammering ACID 4.0a for a few days - been solid as a rock! looking forward to Vegas Audio 4 ;o)

No one seems to remember where VST came from and the fact that one of the biggest draws to VST FX is that there are many free ones made by amateurs. Why is a MIDI plugin technology such a bad thing?

for one thing generally it means buying two pieces of kit instead two
and midi being such a well trodden path implementation of it should really be a done deal after the kids version in acid 3 (PRO) not my term theirs

What are you trying to say? And please don't edit that post, try a new one. If you just edit what you already posted, it won't go back up to the top of the forum.

what i was saying tee cee when im working say in acid and ive got an idea id like to be able to get it down quickly play around with it and move on , rather than say
ive got good idea then i know ill open up cubase/ logic add all cc info that i need graphically i may add (because i cant in acid ) then ill save it export it to acid see if it fits if not go back and do it again can you not see that this slows work down after the midi that never was in acid 3 i just expected sf to get it sooooo
right this time so my point is to creat fully functioning midi parts (editing cc in the list editor=shit load of time) would mean paying for another editor cubase logic etc fliping between the two (or more) and and then paying for acid
i really want to do fully functioning midi and audio within acid it saves time and money and the marketing of acid 4 gives the impression that you can but it doesnt say up to what point you can
i cant see steinberg inviting other software producers 'to come and make a midi editor for our app because our editor is shit 'can you?
i have seem posts from sf staff tnat start with 'first make your part in your favourite midi editor' and he wasnt talking opt that for me is sad indictment of a product with supposed midi capabilites

PHATDRUMS:
I see where you are going. Sonic Foundry will tell you again and again that Acid is still a loop based tool, whether its MIDI loops or audio loops. I'm not saying that this is a good thing, but that seems to be their direction.

My answer to you? Use SONAR. It does loops, although not as good as Acid, and it does audio and MIDI. It allows for everything you want.

It seems that by adding more MIDI to Acid, they have made more people unhappy. I guess if it doesn't do it, it's one thing, but if it doesn't do it well, that's a whole other not so good thing.

i have sonar but i prefer acid and thats really the point i feel pushed towards
sonar yet here we had chance to blow away the competition and give users a pro app
with a great interface instead it chases the competition less functionality
than sonar (agreed looping not so good) over a year after that products release
commercial suicide anyone?

I really can't see why anyone would be upset by the inclusion of MIDI in ACID. It just opens the program up to a wider audience and that can only be good news for it's development long-term.

Acid has come a long way since v3 and I personally am looking forward to seeing full CC editing via pianoroll and more MIDI stuff generally.
