OK. I went and updated Acid to 4.0a and three minutes into using it, it's giving me some weird stuff. Here's my setup: P3 733 128 MB ram Soundblaster Audigy running ASIO drivers (48 Hz sample rate) External MIDI controller • The update seemed to smooth out the UI sluggishness but now I can't play most of my older v3.0 files. Some of them will play for a little while but as soon as more tracks begin playing, the computer will completely shut down and turn off. No warning, no message...just turn off and back on again. • The songs that don't play just make a godawful distorted sound (I can barely hear the sounds underneath the distortion) and it freezes the program. • When I switch back to my regular drivers (assuming they're WDM or MME) the songs play fine for a while but then begin to stutter, pop and do all sorts of odd things. Also, the UI seems to go back to being sluggish when I switch to the default drivers. The cursor moves erratically along with the counter and the VU meters. • I'm pleased to say that the VST portion of the program is running great and I haven't had any dropouts yet. SoFo could have the ultimate program here if they straighten these bugs out. Sonar has a lot of features too but it wasn't anywhere as stable and intuitive as Acid 3.0 which I'm glad to say had never given me many problems (if any). Don't let us down SoFo. |

Are you using Windows XP? If you are, be sure to use the Windows key + Pause/Break on your keyboard. Click the Advanced tab. Under Startup and Recovery, click the Settings button. Under System failure, untick the Automatically restart option. This will prevent Windows XP from rebooting should there be a crash. Other than that, try completely uninstalling ACID 4.0a and then reinstall. Sometimes installing fresh instead of updating the existing install helps. HTH, Iacobus |

The songs that don't play just make a godawful distorted sound (I can barely hear the sounds underneath the distortion) and it freezes the program. :-))) Ok you can switch to industrial with you setup. When I switch back to my regular drivers (assuming they're WDM or MME) the songs play fine for a while but then begin to stutter, pop and do all sorts of odd things. Also, the UI seems to go back to being sluggish when I switch to the default drivers. The cursor moves erratically along with the counter and the VU meters. That is a problem which occurs also with my machine. It is because IMHO ACID has problems to allocate virtual memory in a smooth way. The reason for that? Bad programming, bad computer.... |

If you are using XP go to the Soundblaster site and download the new XP drivers....they corrected alot of similar issues for me. I've even got the latency down to 1-2ms for soft synths(of course I gotta kick it back up for playback but I could never get that kind of response w/ Sonar). Good luck. |
