Subject:Little feature wishlist for the next Acid update(s):

This little wishlist is based on my own experiences and on experiences of Acid users i work with in several professional broadcast studios. (most of them use Vegas too for Multitracking and Postproduction etc.)

We all think that Acid 4 is so great that it is worth to make it a real killer app, to achieve this you could add some basic pro features that fit into the general concept of Acid and would make Acid much more powerful in the Midi domain :

1. Swing factor (1-100%) in midi quantisation
2. Metronome on Play in the Midi editor (like in the Beatmapper)
or some visual cursour (timing) reference to the rest of the playback during Midi editing
3. Count-in/start record metronome on real-time Midi recording

These 3 features would round-up Acid and make us never need any other audio-midi software again for the rest of our life.

Many thanks for listening

Sky and some other Acid addicts...

New to AP4, but I like those suggestions. I too will submit those in the product suggestion.
I'm trying to avoid having to learn a software based midi program, but you can only do so much with.......an Alesis MMT-8 :D

For those who would like "swing" functionality:

Here is an OPT plug-in you can add to MIDI tracks that will add "swing" to your beats. I just tested the 3-day demo, and it seems to work great.

i still would like to have the ability to insert and split a whole group of regions.

i.e. there are times when a client wants an extra chorus, it would be great to have a bar line running thru the whole track, split it at that point, and then be able to paste/insert the region at that bar line.... i can do this now, but in more cumbersome way....

it would be great to group regions, and then treat them as a whole like i can with vegas....

it would also be nice to lock regions so that they cant be accidently moved...

Attention: Jazz SWING it is not sexual family hobby Sex swing and Jazz SWING it is not "strong between the eyes" swing in Box!

lol ok!

By saying swing quantisation i ment add "shuffle" to the existing Acid quantisation types (1/8,1/16....) that are very good but difficult to adapt to groovy audio loops, cause to rigid.

If there was a stepless shuffle factor from 0-100 (like in Reason or Storm for instance) integrated into the existing Acid quantisation, this would be really great.
You could fit the groove of midiloops to audioloops.
This fitting needs to be done WITHIN ACID. (Not by importing groove quantized midi files from any sequencer that dont match the audioloops in Acid after all)
(This would FIT exactly into the LOOP concept of Acid too)

I think, with the technological power of a pro company like SF we dont need any amateurish 3rd party developpers.

Personally i would just like to see the ability to make the grid lines adjustable to a variable swing time. Usually i make a lot of beats by using multiple one-shots for the drum sounds, but ya can't snap them to anything other than straight time.

right but snap to.... is no replacement for a quantisation and doesnt really make sense, you will never get a real (shuffling or swinging) groove by this.
Better is to midi trigger your one shots off a vsti sampler and swing quantize them afterwards.
And imagine you could do this ALL INSIDE ACID !

My wishlist is that it does what they say it will without bugs.

i'm not sure i follow you. i use the snapping when i make beats now and of course they are perfectly quantized to 1/16ths as a result. how would it be any different if the grid lines were slightly offset by a variable swing amount? i'm talking about hand-placing one-shots to construct a beat from scratch, not using loops.

>>Better is to midi trigger your one shots off a vsti sampler and swing

not really better in my case, since the midi editing is still a bit wacky and is difficult to follow your position since it doesn't update that on the display. theoretically it could be fine this way but the current midi-edit plug doesn't really excite me for this. i'd much prefer a grid with fast shortcuts for setting velocity etc.. also i'd need the vstI to easily let me drag + drop wav files into it for config, and all sorts of other stuff, which i can do just fine be dragging and dropping into a one-shot track now.

for midi...i started design on a sort of pattern based midi OPT plug but it's really only a small chance i'll have time to really finish it between the day job and actually making music which is a higher priority :) sigh, i'd much rather just get nice swing sequencing right away.. i'm kind of leaning towards just using fruity once they get the sync issues solved, i think that will be rather close to my ideal 'all-in-one' setup then. well, all-in-two i guess.

>>>And imagine you could do this ALL INSIDE ACID !

yep, well we are both in agreement there. i'd love to have a tighter integration within the app since it's still my favorite overall interface.

My list:

1) Live performance
2) Live performance
3) Live performance

I'm still surprised after all these years that there haven't been tweaks to make Acid usuable in a live situation. It's really never been more than a few features away, especially at version 3.0.

1. No pauses because of re-buffering. Acid 3 has removed one of the problems of 1 & 2 where moving the loop to/from points (even when not in loop mode) caused a clearing and re-buffering of the audio, so clearly Acid is fairly well in control of its re-buffering. For live performance this just has to be ensured that any action that causes re-buffering is disabled, or I'd even settle for them just being listed in a manual as "don't mess with during live playback."

2. Ability to have solo/mute/unmute function on a quantization (e.g. I click the mute now but it takes effect on the next loop).

3. Multiple loop points that you can move between in a quanitized fashion.

That's all I can really think of that would need to be added to get decent live performance/remixing out of Acid. There's obviously more than could be added, clearly items 1 & 2 would need to be addressed first, and 3 would be my preference of what to add next.

If there's something I'm completely missing that audio programmers know of, by all means please point it out, because it escapes me. =)

I am getting very tired of resequencing into Ableton. I hate requencing. It is lost time that could be used much better on orignal material.

P.S. I really, really hate resequencing.

tell me about it!!

i solved this by using hardware, kinda, for live performance. one of my favorite acid features is the ability to batch process an export of every track.

so i get my song how i want it (just a big loop basically without any arrangement) and then whittle it down to 16 tracks of what i want. then i just render out 5 minutes of each one, which is really easy and automatable in acid. (as long as you don't use bus fx..)

then i just import all those puppies into a fostex vf-16. voila, instantly re-sequenced.. i just use mutes/solos/faders on the hardware to arrange the track then or to play live. much more stable and less fragile than hauling a computer around too.

anyway just another .02 on the topic. i'm probably up to about $10 now on this forum :)

Hello everyone...quick question and if no answer, possible update needed.

First I record my keyboard into acid 2.0, and loop, cut, copy and paste to create tracks untill I have a song..Then I add the desired plugin effects to make the song better. I end up with what I have named a "karoke version" of my hit. Next I sing into a microphone into acid, record it and edit it. I now have a finished "hit" song. Then burn to cd and market..etc. The problem I am having is I have a particular song that has called for the vocals to have an effect...lets say a robot voice.(I achieved this by altering the settings of the chorus plugin) and it worked wonderful. Now my dilema...how can I ever play this at a concert with out lipsinging?

I will need real time effects something like My microphone into computer sent thru acids direct x effects back to the computer speakers.
Same is true if I hire a band to play my song. There instruments must go thru acids direct x plugin effects to get the same sound as I created manually on my pc. I am sure there is somekind of live performing plugin option that could help the small timers that would like to make songs on acid and perform them live...also hard to get signed with label with no "live act"...thanks any advice or help or plugin appreciated.

I am purchasing acid pro 4.0 today and I am hoping it can help a little but I am unsure.

Also it was extremely difficult to place multiple effects on a single track in 2.0 and I am hoping 4.0 will allow unlimited effects assignable per track.

I wish that ACID would have an increased stability at scanning the available sound cards.
