Subject:Scratch or Brake Effect in 4.0?

Ok, I know how to scratch on my 1200s...and there are even dj cd players now that allow you to scratch.

Are there any plugins (or another software app) that will allow me to:

-scratch (real scratching...not some cheesy simulated .wav like those $100 Casio Keyboards)
-"power down" effect...just like hitting the Power button on your turntable and waiting for the record to stop spinning
-"Brake" effect...hitting the Stop button on a turntable that stops the record within 1 second...very cool effect doing this live

Sorry for all the questions but you guys are VERY VERY helpful!!!

Eric,

In my own opinion, while there is software out there that will simiulate these things, someone who started on tables will most likely find themselves disappointed in their functionality or the results these softwares provide. If anyone knows of exceptions, please, let Eric (and myself) know.

The only exception might be the "power down" effect, which can be pretty easily simulated with a pitch bend in Sound Forge or another non-real-time editor (ACID only does pitch-shifting, and I would not recomment using a pitch bend effect on a track, as it changes that track's playback rate, and can easily throw it out of sync with the rest of the project).

Thanks, Nate.

I have used the Pitch Bend with SForge 4.x and find it cool...but never could master that "brake" effect. It's used in so many recordings that it is hard to believe people record the braking of the turntable and then use that recording in the digital world.

Would be nifty if there was a shareware app out there that ONLY did this feature.

Hmmmm...if you have real turntables...What not just do these effects with the real hardware and record them? You have all the tools.

It might not be quite what you're after, but check out 'Scratch' from AnalogX

It's a free, standalone scratching program which lets you scratch with the mouse and record the output as a wave file. A little bit of fun if nothing else. Plenty of other useful stuff on the site too.

why not?...noise, rumble, hum, etc.

Sure, I can then alter the sound with EQ tools but the point would be to have a digital scratch.

The newer dj cd players from Pioneer are supposedly wicked cool with scratching...why isn't this technology available at the software level?

And I really own 10 times more stuff on cd than vinyl...not to mention all the sample cds I have (not vinyl).

Noise, rumble, hum are all part of recording. There is nothing like the real thing. Hell my guitars make noise, have rumble and hum everyday... that's part of their charm but I would never use a digital simulation of a guitar on my stuff. :)

Cool Edit Pro 1.2a has a power down type effect with transform/pitch bender. You can control every aspect of speed (turntable losing power, squirrel etc), or you can draw the desired effect with handles.
