4.0a Some Acid projects (embedded media) have drop outs(not clicks) or skip every few seconds. It is not a ram problem. I have 512mb. and the # or tracks in the project does not seem to matter. Most projects play fine. I have tried saving as 4.0 project and it does not help. Of note...the projects render to another format just fine. Ever heard of this problem? Hope somebody can give me some advice. Thank You, Niko |

My Specs. Dell Inspiron 8000 Laptop. XP Pro. 30 GB. Hd. 512 mb Ram. Acid 4a. Projects are songs created in Acid using only .wav files. With or w/o fx. Some as few as 8 files in the song, while some other songs with 40 files play fine! Songs are saved as Acid projects with embedded media. |

Hello, I think it might be something running in the background, try this while your running one of the songs, right click the task bar and select Task Manager, then select the Processes tab, and look for things running other than Acid that are using CPU, in the Processes window one of the colums is CPU usage for each process running. Post here the abrevieation for the process using more CPU if you don't understand what it means and I'll try to help. See ya, Rockitglider |

Are these ACID 4 projects or projects create with a previous version of ACID? Peter |

Nothing running in background. It is the same projects over and over. It also happens only in Acid 4. I still have Acid 3 so I tried the projects that I did not update to 4 and they played fine. Put them in 4 and got the little skips again. It is not cpu or background processes. I shut almost everything off just to be sure. I am pulling out my hair over this. |

Yes, they were made with 3 pro. However, even when I rename them and save them in 4, when I reopen them...dropouts are still there. Only a few of my projects have this problem. |

This is helpful. Could you describe the ACID 3 project? How many Mixer buses and the FX setup Number of tracks, and how they are routed include FX sends and any MIDI routings Thanks Peter |

I found the problem. It was in the FX. I went through all the tracks of all the projects that had this problem in 4a, and the only thing they had in common was an Acoustic Mirror fx assignment on some of the tracks. When I removed the preset the songs played fine. I tried a variety of fx and the only one that causes these dropouts is Acoustic Mirror. If it is any help...AM came with my SF 5. All other fx assignments are working fine. |

Thanks for tracking this down. We are on it. One last question: What is your audio buffer setting (WDM/MME or ASIO driver.) ...and one last request: If you add AM to a bus or as an assignable FX, does the same problem occur? Thanks Peter |

I applied the AM effects at the track level. No additional buses. I find now that I get the dropouts even with new projects in 4a if I apply a AM effect to any track. My sound driver is Ess Maestro 3 |

Can you try adding a AM to the master bus or a sub bus vs directly on a track? Does the problem occur? Is there a particular impulse file that you use? FWIW: Mirror is VERY expensive plugin. We actuall recommend that you don't use it on tracks because it is so expensive. It increased the overall system latency by the length in seconds of the impulse file. So if you use an impulse file that is 2 seconds long, then your latency will be at least 2 seconds. It also forces ACID to allocated buffers that are equal to the impluse file. This can add significant memory requirements. One copy should not cause too much problems, but multiple copies of Mirror on tracks is usually out of the question, even with the most powerful hardware you can throw at it. It is far better to use an assignable FX with Mirror and route the tracks you want effected using the multipurpose fader. Peter |

No problem. When adding AM presets to the master bus, or additional busses they work fine, no detectable latency. I guess I have just not been using it right. I was able to use it at track level in Acid 3 though. I guess I can still apply the effect at track level by doing it in SF. Save the .wav sample and use it in my Acid projects. |

Thanks for the info and the test. You have given me the information we need to take a look at the problem. You should be able to use it at the track level, but how many is always a system level issue. Thanks, Peter |

Peter, Thank you for all your help with this (minor) problem. Of note, I opened a project that dropsout in 4a and 3...and watched my cpu usage during play. In 4a, with dropouts. cpu varied between 32% and 97%. Same project in 3, cpu varied between 28% and 89% with no dropouts. I do not know if this is a help, but I thought I would let you know. Also, there was never more than one AM effect on any one track and never more than 2 tracks per project with AM effects. Again, Thanks. Cheers, Niko |
