Subject:Downloaded new drivers, now what?

I just installed a new M-Audio Audiophile 2496 card on my computer and I'm hearing pops, crackling and sound dropout. I downloaded the new drivers from the M-Audio website, but I see the driver installation is not automatic. Does anyone know how to install them?

You have to use the Add New Hardware wizard or go to the Devices-->Audiofile porperties and click Update Driver and go through the dialog until you can navigate to the new drivers on your hard drive. Ignore the notice about them not being digitally signed.

Then, increase your asio buffer size.

I did this last night. Unfortunately, it didn't help anyhow. But here's how you do it:

In XP, first click on the exe file to expand the driver stuff and stick it in a folder on your desktop.

Then go to start>settings>control panel>system>hardware>device manager>sound video & game controllers>click on your sound card>choose the driver tab>choose update driver.

If you do a search for the driver in the folder, Windows will tell you that it is not a better driver (I think this is because they are not "certified" by Microsoft). Just go ahead and give it the exact location of your file and make it take the driver anyway.
