Subject:Tricky thing: How can you edit a Midi-part in A4 while hearing also the rest of the tracks ?

The piano-roll editor is great and fits into the whole Acid-loop concept but could there be a way to audition the rest of a project tracks while editing a midi part in the piano-roll editor ? Or could, even better, while the whole (looped) project is running, the curor in the piano-editor move corresponding to the cursor in the project ? When you edit a midi loop in the piano-roll editor you have no reference where the midi events are located in the projet cause the cursor dont moves at all. It only moves when you hit Play in the piano-roll editor, but then you hear only the midi loop solo and not the rest of the tracks. How can you edit a Midi part efficiently when you dont hear the other tracks in the project ? In traditional Midi editors the cursor follows the rest of the project so you see the position of midi events (notes or controllers) in reference to the rest of the project. I can imagine, in A4 this thing is not easy to solve, staying at the same time in the loop-(paint tracks)-concept wich i really adore in Acid. But including the possibility to see WHERE the midi events happen corresponding to the project would still make Midi editing in A4 much more powerful. Thanks for any hints. |

I totally agree with u on this Skysurfer! Ideally we would just be able to zoom into the actual track (like you do with audio), and edit MIDI notes from the workspace, as we hear the rest of the tracks playing. As SF have gone with the whole OPT thing, this aint gonna happen, but who knows...OPT may end up being the next standard and we may be thankfull for it 6 months down the track...just not right now ;) OPT may give us the option of picking which MIDI editor appeals to our needs, rather than just going with what the programmers want us to work...well heres to hoping....unfortunately I cannot even record audio (or MIDI)in synch in V4 (just downloading v4.0a)...so am madly hopping between MIDI in v4 and audio in v3 to finish my current project...and yeah I am pissed ;( |

I understand that under the circumstances it is not possible to be done, i can live with it, because its really great to treat midi-loops the same way as audio-loops, though perhaps a click (metronome) on Play in the piano-roll editor would be possible to integrate, would give at least a rhythmic reference for editing midinotes (it wouldn´t still help for editin CC but dont matter, we dont have that yet implemented in the piano-roll editor anyway) |
