From the manual "In order to render projects that contain MIDI tracks, MIDI tracks must be routed to DLS or VSTi soft synths. Tracks that are routed to external MIDI devices will not be included in the rendered file." Can I work around this in any way to use my external synth for anything in Acid? |

You must connect the audio out of your external synth to line in of your sound card. Acid will send a midi signal to your synth in sync with the project. |

or you may just have to record the external MIDI track as audio and render that way. Might be the easiest solution, actually. |

So essentially, there is no way to render the external synth even if its piped into acid as the manual excerpt sugessts? |

Not true at all. Please read this thread. It should give a thorough description of the process you will need use: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=122822&Page=0 |

Yes this seems to indicate that i can route my synths audio into acid and record it. But it does not indicate that I can render the synth output if I simply rendered the whole project without first recording my midi track to audio-unlike a soft synth where I would not have to do the extra step. |

True. And therein lies the great attraction of VSTi. |

oddboy, Correct. ACID has no way of "getting hold" of your external synth's audio without you first recording it. This is true of any sequencing/recording software package when used with an external synth module. Other than routing the computer and synth to an external mixer, then recording to DAT or another location in real-time, there is no other way to mixdown. Nate |

Thats cool-although Protools can bounce monitored MIDI in a mix |

You are saying that if you have your audio output from your synth routed back into the computer that ProTools will automate the process of recording that audio from the synth when you choose to render, correct? If so, I can see how that could save you one step, however, it would still require the same amount of time to playback and record in real-time. Nate |

Exactly, in PT its a realtime bounce that includes all midi inputs...I suppose its just a different approach. |
