hello acid4.0a users,
I uninstalled demoversion of Acid4.0, installed the full version from CD-ROM, upgraded with the 4.0a. I also installed TC-works VSTi mercury-1, available as a demo on the CD. my computer froze under that installation phase. I rebooted tried again and was successfull according to message window.
1. the mercury-1 didn-t show up in Acid.
2. my emagic mt-4 USB midi interface wasn't working any more.I then checked my system and found that IRQ6 was locked to a new .sys file in windows /system32.
it was described as "PACE anti-piracy" and dated year 2000.
the installation came at the same time as my Acid4.0a and TC-WORKS merkury-1 was set up. I removed MERCURY-1 and this -sys file and all went back to normal again.
info: my computer runs Win-XP on a Athlon XP 1500+ with 512Mb sdram.

any clues why this happened ?

PACE can be a nightmare for some systems. And it doesn't seem to have any pattern to it when or how it starts causing problems. See if TC Works and/or PACE has newer drivers for the mercury. New PACE drivers for Waves plugs are posted on the Waves site. In my view, the companies who use this crap should be liable for some of damage its caused!

thanks for the info, drbam.
I remember also having problem with the first demo version of mercury-1 that came out a couple of years ago. at that time my computer was a p3-500mhz with win-98...
