hmmmm..... maybe if its not too tedious you could both list your plugins and maybe we can see a commmon denominator.. does any error message come up??? usually when vsti's crash a program (this actually has happened to me in n-track as well) ...there is an error mesge that points to a certain plug. |

It looks like one, coz I Change My VST folder from directory to C:Program Files (like the default setting of acid) and there it worked... Once the program has done a refresh I cant put my folder back to where it was before, I still have some VSTi (like energy pro that dont Sync with Acid), Actually i'm not even sure that the other VSTi Sync at all... Plus still have this Note realease getting Stucked in Lounge LIzard(Wich by the way works like a dream in Cubase SX). I've had A crash of Acid just trying to change Midi controler... There is still Some "fixing" to do...I'm Now waiting for The 4.0b To be Continued ... |

well, just as a note, with most programs when you set the Vsti folder, it chooses every .dll file in that directory as a vsti... you dont want this happening in your program files folder, this may be causing it to continue crashing! Make one folder Like "C:programfiles/acidvstplugs" and put one plug in there, such as NI Fm7 (a reliable one) .... set that as the folder and then start Acid. then one by one put your vstis in there and see which one crashes it. Some programs are more touchy with vstis that others. when I tried Cubase SX it choked on so many plugs I had to make a seperrate folder for that program.... |

also, this has happened to me with FXspansions VST2DX adapter 3.03.... So that makes Fruityloops, N-track, Cubase SX, Vst to DX adapter, and cooledit (with DX plugs!) that is why I initially feel that this may not be a bug with Acid, some vstis are more touchy that others and some hosts are the same way. |

Tx Jacose for taking the time but I dont think u understand what I meant... I had all my VSTi in one folder(VStplugins)based in C:/Audio/Vstplugins So i tried to add that folder to acid and refresh,CRASH.... So I decided to Move my vstplugins folder to the default Directory for VSTi in acid wich is C:/Program files/vstplugins - It worked fine after that I could Move my vstplugins folder back to C:/Audio/vstplugins and DO a refresh in acid with no crash... Looks like a bad bug to me...anyway it works now but Instability rules in acid 4.0a I think nobody can't argue with that.... CHeers !!! |

Ok, i've been testing a bit more... The problem with the midi volume of VSTi is still not solved... U can try to recreate: record a midi channel with one VSTi(I use the asio driver when I record then The MME when it playback, coz the Asio driver is to unstable and cpu consuming ...) So I play back my VSTi i just recorded and switch drivers Asio - MME on the fly When I press play again the volume of the instrument drop down by 10 Dbs at least... I use Sampletank and lounge lizard that actually do the opposit by raising the volume back up... Good luck. |

slcrz, I think your volume problems are because of Acid bypassing mixer volume and synth fx when playing midi in realtime from external controllers (for some reason) while the track is not playing. It also bypasses when you preview from the piano roll. If the track is playing or you are recording midi, and you play the soft synth from an external controller, then it re-enables the mixer volume and synth fx. confused? I am. |

Okay I just noticed the same midi volume problem when using Triangle II. Even if I am not recording and just press Play from start, the output volume inside the VSTi switches to max. It appears to happen with other VSTi's too. |

Acid 4.0a crashes if I try to switch VSTi's during MIDI playback. And I don't mean just stops playing, I mean the application *closes*. This is not reasonable. Also, I'm having the hardest time seeing VST (Soft Synth) properties.. it always says "Soft Synth not selected". Eventually it might give me properites on a DLS Softsynth, but that's not what I'm trying to view properties on. Thankfully, it seems the real-time modification of "Original Tempo" of a beatmapped track bug is gone. Keep up the good work SF - I look forward to Acid 4.0g (what ever happened to 4.1, 4.2 etc?!) -NeoAlus |

Select mixer tab, doubleclick on icon for synth you are trying to view, and go back to properties. |

i bought a new p4 just to run this software but i still have the some of the same issues maybe someone can help me troubleshoot. 1. audio crackles when i resize windows 2. when i use asio, acid's advanced audio config tab says one thing and my asio control panel says another. example: asio is set to normal mode in the control panel (output latency 40ms/input 11ms clock=internal) but the advance config tab in acid says (buffer settings=5ms asio clock=external) is it me but shouldn't these say the same thing. when i adjust the settings never match. 3.occasional clicks in recording audio probably caused by the above 4.vsti jumping volume when stopped but i just turn down the volume control on my oxygen8 controller while stopped. p4 1.8 win xp 512 ddr sdram ati 32mb rage 20 gig HD boot 80 gig HD audio esi u2a usb audio interface oxygen 8 midi controller |

For what it's worth, 4.0a is behaving better in some respects, but now I'm getting frequent error messages (working with midi tracks) saying Acid has a problem with the undo buffer and must close; save work immediately and restart Acid. Anyone else getting this? The only thing I'm doing differently (other than having installed the upgrade) is I'm editing midi note velocities in List Editor. I'm taxing the system less, not more, than before, because I've broken everything into small groups of related tracks using a few VSTis and am getting a first mono rendering done from those. I haven't even gotten to the point yet of working with waves, effects, etc., so I don't know how the rest of it is going to handle. When I first installed 4.0a, I had to Edit all my VSTs to reimport them, after I'd refreshed my VSTi list via Preferences; the sound was crap before I did that. Some of them are behaving better. Some are doing the same thing: not allowing me to save effects banks, jumping back to the defaults when I try to render, and the general screen refresh problems mentioned before. But SOFO's DLS Synth is working better now. So that's something. |

Well, I've encountered something else screwed up. I just went to render a single (soloed) track, a one-channel/one patch midi to which I'd applied a VST. When the track started rendering, the progress meter stuck at 0% and the clock just kept on going after the time of my project. I tried to cancel it, and I got this message: "A background operation is currently in progress. ACID cannot close the current project until this operation is complete or cancelled. Would you like to cancel this operation?" I said Yes and the screen just hung with the hourglass spinning and spinning. I'm going to have to try to reboot my system now. May have to just turn it off to get this to quit. Bummer. Yep, it's been ten minutes and the screen is frozen with dialog that says "Render canceled by the user" with approximate time left of 10:25 (my project is under 9 minutes) and elapsed time 00:00:26. Weird, because it sure went on not rendering a lot longer than that before I canceled it. I'm hoping that the SOFO folks are reading this thread, since it does say 4.0a bug list. If this is the case, the only thing I did differently is I edited my midi file in my scoring program (per the usual), then reloaded it via the List Editor. Maybe the problem is there. Maybe not. I'm running a Gateway AMD Athlon 1000 Gig 512k RAM system Windows XP Acid 4.0a VSTs: Ganymed, Vivaldi, which worked fine before Nothing else was running when this happened I've had tons of error messages today, mainly that undo buffer problem I've already mentioned. Anyone have any suggestions? |

Weird, because it sure went on not rendering a lot longer than that before I canceled it. just so you know, 10 and a half minutes rendering time is not odd for a 9 minute song, as it has to apply numerous fx and envelopes linearly. .....but you said it took alot longer than that, so im not trying to doubt your bug ;) |

TO COOLOUT: I had the problem with crackling when moving windows: I bet you have your sytem tuned for audio and you have switched graphics card acceleration in Display Properties/advanced settings to none. I had done this and was getting crackles but when I switched the acceleration of graphics card up to full they went away - no bother - I think this is because when at acceleration is at full windows does more work of re-rendering your gui - when at full your graphics hardware will take over, but, this uses more resoourses. I think, but hey - what do I know? |

AgentS and coolout, Good suggestion, AgentS. The video acceleration setting will vary from machine to machine, there is no "correct" setting. For example, one of my machines at home has an old Voodoo 3 in it. The card works well in 2D, but at high resolutions, I can get crackling when using low ASIO buffer setting if I scroll around a lot or change applications, etc. Turning down video acceleration to one notch up from the bottom corrected this for me. One of my test machines here behaves the opposite, and works best with acceleration turned all the way up (TNT2 video card). So, the only real answer is "try it at a few settings and see which works best for you". Hope this helps, Nate |
