I have been running an Abit KG7 with an AMD Athlon XP chip and M-Audio Audiophile soundcard. Being so fed up with various incompatibilty issues and AMD`s poor stability I have decided to get a Pentium 4 chip so need a new motherboard. Could anyone suggest a good brand and model of P4 motherboard best for audio/acid 4.0? What hardware is Acid 4.0 tested/developed with? Any help appreciated. |

My buddy dropped ~$1300 on a P4 2.8ghz 1Gb Rambus + ASUS motherboard but he's heavy into flight sims. I told him he's nuts. He's overclocking it to just over 3.0ghz. I am running with a Athlon 1.333Ghz w/1Gb PC133 DIMM w/60Gb ATA133 on a Gigabyte motherboard and system runs fine with XP Pro. Acid did give me some fits on the first day trying it out with a midi file using VST plugins (FM7 and Absynth) and a couple loops to flesh out the song (dark ambient stuff) and it died every time at 35% rendered. Next day it worked fine...still not giving me trouble...Go figure BUT I want the fixed Acid to get out here because I don't want anything to happen with my project(s)! I only have Pro 5.2 and Kontakt installed along with the other 2 VST's and haven't tried using them yet. I like the addition of piano roll editor (will use my sequencing software more than this most likely) and list editor. About time they get in there! Mike |

Too true Jacose, When running acid (above version 2.0) I always think my system is really unstable until I use any other software at which point I realise the truth: my system is fine it`s acid that`s unstable. But we all know that it is the beauty of Acids interface that keeps us going - I really do love Acid - if it was perfect it be going against the laws of computing (too err is human to completely efff up takes a computer). Anyway - good things come to those who wait (no royalties to Guiness beer) 4.0a soon please!!!!!!!!!!! |

Personally, I have had wonderful success with Asus motherboards. They often cost more than others, but I have never traced an unexpected performance bottleneck back to the mobo or had a chipset issue the 3-4 I have dealt with, and rarely have I seen their designs unmercilessly slagged by a hardcore hardware junkie.
