Just bought Acid 4.0 and downloaded it! Can't wait to see what I can do with it. I was trying to play around with midi and am having problems. I want to change the voice of the midi instrument (i.e. change from piano to sax or oboe or anything). I tried to find where this is done, but can't seem to find this information. I've even read the manual (imagine that!). Do I need to buy a midi software synthesizer? Shouldn't I be able to use the provided DLS soft synth? Thanks. |

Search the forum for "patch change". You'll find a good discussion or two. You have to put a patch change message in a MIDI clip. Or edit the DLS to just contain your patch (probably the easier way). You can use a free utility from Microsoft (listed in one of the discussions) or buy AWave to edit DLS patches. TeeCee |

Thanks TeeCee! I got it going. I appreciate your help as a total audio newbie! :) Wouldn't it be nice for Acid to have a GUI that changed the voice for you? Also, it would be nice to click on the piano keys in the roll editor and have the corresponding sounds come out (instead of just showing us the letter key we just pressed)? Minor gripes, I know, but I feel valid. Thanks for listening! |

mako, It is likely that the change you talk about for selecting voices will appear in a future update. As for your second "gripe", all you have to do is to enable real-time MIDI, and also enable the Preview button in the piano roll OPT plug-in, and the functionality you describe is already there. Hope this helps, Nate |

Thanks Nate. Migaloo, I don't have a midi controller/keyboard! :( Maybe I'll get one now. :) |
