Subject:Before I buy acid 4 What do I need else to do 5.1

I currently use a hammerfall 9636 card which is run through a yamaha o1v mixer via digital (adat) inputs. This then runs to a Alesis ra-100 amp.
I know I would need to run into a reciever that works with 5.1 ( consumer ok?).
What am I missing to pull off 5.1 (besides speakers) ?
I guess I am trying to figure out if my hammerfall card is enough for dig 5.1 channels?
Thanx for any light on this.
Need to know where I am going before buying into this whole adventure.
Thank you very much for your help!! ; )

Really it depends on your output configuration. I have 3 channels off of my MAudio Delta TDIF going into my tascam tmd-1000, one for front l/r, one for rear l/r, and one for center. There's a lot of guesswork that way, which might be solved with a 5.1 channel soundcard, which I beleive the sb audigy does. Hope that helps a little

I know the hammerfall supports 8 channels optical (adat) only.
From a mixer, how would you get these channels out in stereo for your front l/r center, rear l/r and sub?
It still has to go into the mixer.
Is a reciever totally crude?
Thanx for your input. ; )

yeah, it still goes into the mixer, but I'm going through Tdif, so it sends the stereo signal through that. I just found a driver for the audigy that allows you to break the channels down that should work in acid, as soon as I know more, I'll let you know. I run the delta and the audigy in my system now, but the audigy is really only for if I ever want to play a game, which I doubt will happen, so might as well try to use it for something else. This may be a better way then going to a receiver, because you'd still have to fight with output configurations to get to the reciever I believe, unless your hamerfall can do that. Will keep you posted

I was informed that the Audigy card can be used for 5.1 panning/mixing if you use ASIO with it. Is that correct or not ?

I was spec'ing the MAudio Delta TDIF for a DAW I'm building and was under the impression that it did 8 in and 8 out via TDIF. I was going to use these outs to monitor ACID in surround by connecting the TDIF to my RAMSA DA7. Your post leads me to believe that you can't monitor the surround from ACID using the DELTA TDIF card. Is this actually the case, or is that just your 'setup'.

Thanks!
Todd

Heya Todd
No, I'm sorry if I didnt explain that right, but thats exactly what I am doing. It runs 8 in and 8 out, I'm using 3 of the outs for surround mixing at the moment, the little bit I actually do. Keep in mind, I'm only experimenting with it now. Before I upgraded to acid 4, I used acid 3 for piecing drum loops together to make a song, then import them into vegas. 4 seems to give me a feeling that I can do alot more with it, so I'll be delving into it for future projects. Hope that helps

Yes. The Audigy WDM drivers when used in Wave Emulation mode do not support the ability to assign to the individual channels. This was a choice by Creative not to support this mode. We have tried to convince them to support it, but they are concerned that if they did, any games that use the card would loose 6 voices from the available 32 voices. They are far more concerned about gamers it seems.
