Subject:"Error starting Acid. The reason for the error could not be dertermined"

I get this error every time I launch Acid 4. Has anyone else experienced this and know what might be causing it? I'm running Windows XP with a Delta66 sound card and latest audio drivers.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Have you updated your video card drivers lately, or changed your video card, and has Acid been working OK, or is this something new?

Let us know, Rockitglider

Stuff like this is scary, cuz certainly I am not wanting in the CPU or mem departments, but my music software is, well, I'm meeting the minimum req's for my OS is 98SE...my hard drives are @ 7200RPM, and I'm contemplating a removable bay sitch...but what scares me is the soundcard issues with acid 4...right now I have a "cheapy" AW2 card and am seriously thinking of biting on an M-Audio Delta series, prolly a 66, but there have been issues with A4/98SE and their cards, I guess...haven't heard from M-Audio yet on this one, so, again, posting my angst here...

...I never been a follower of the softsynth thing, etc., or WDM, and have basically liked what all my apps do with MME...I run a serial cable from my alesis to the back of my tower, so I don't use digital in any way thru my AW2 card, hence, no concerns with ASIO...what am I trying to say here...? heck w/it...

No updates whatsoever except the latest BETA driver from M-Audio for my Delta66. I uninstalled that driver, totally removed it I thought and then reinstalled the previous driver. Still getting the error. This problem happened to me once when I was running version 3 and had Wavelab installed. Uninstalling Wavelab fixed the problem, but I've had Wavelab installed well before this problem with V4 and all was well. I even uninstalled Wavelab to see if that would fix it, nope. Last night Acid 4 caused a yellow exclamation mark to appear in my system tray which was an indication that my system was running low on resources. I opened up Task Manager and found Acid 4 to be still running (though it was closed I thought) and sucking the life out of my resources. Weird. Not to mention that Acid 4 crashes a whole hell of a lot when I'm doing tasks as simple as changing volume envelopes on tracks, or playing around in the piano roll.

My system consists of:

AMD Athlon XP 1600
MSI K266 Pro Motherboard
512 Megs of SDRam
G-Force II video card
Delta66 audio card
Ultra II SCSI Cheetah hard drive

Thanks much,

Midihead

Uh...Ok WAY off track, thank you. I've done just about everything I can think of right down to making sure I have the latest detonator drivers for my NVidia card and the latest 4 in 1 drivers for my VIA chipset. I defragged my hard drive (again) to see if it would fix it also as per previous post. I don't get it. This error just popped up one day out of nowhere.

Here's what is causing it. Apparently by disabling terminal services in Win 2000/XP this pop up error message appears. According to SOFO, it's only an annoyance and won't cause any further problems. I personally don't like the idea of having Terminal Services running on my PC, so I'll live with the annoyance.

BTW, why does ACID need that service anyway? Seems a bit fishy to me.

Windows Terminal Services is used for fast user switching and remote desktop support.
