when I try to record, my "monitor" check box stopped displaying the mic levels. then when I press record, the duration number records how long I've been recording and I can hear myself in the speakers so I know its recording my voice, but nothing comes out in the recording area.
when I hit stop and go to the recording display of what I recorded, its completely grayed out. the line cursor is blinking at the beginning, but I can't drag it down the lines or do anything with it becuase there's nothing there!
WHY IS THIS SO!!??
is there something I need to check in the volume controls section? why can't I suddenly record anything. I used to be able to up until about a day ago and I can't figure it out!!!
anything will help PLEASE!!

thanks!

Well, technically you know that the microphone is being fed to the speaker outputs. That doesn't mean you're recording the microphone. There are separate input & volume selections for monitoring (playback) and recording. Usually i would tell you to doubleclick the little yellow speaker icon then choose Options, Properties, Recording, OK and make sure you have the recording input set to the Microphone. However, you also mention that you don't have any waveform recorded at all. If the microphone recording input was shut off, then you should be recording silence (or more likely very low levels of system noise) for whatever duration. This would result in a file occupying horizontal space (time) on the screen but not much vertical space (volume), basically a straight horizontal line at 0dB. What you describe sounds like you aren't taking up any horizontal space either. That's weird!
