I'm working on Acid Pro 4.0, with the 5.1 surround sound. I have followed the manual, but I cannot get the sound to play from my rear speakers. They work for my DVD's and everything else, but not Acid Pro 4.0. I'm using Sound Blaster Live. Help!!! |

The SoundBlaster Live cannot be used in ACID for surround purposes as there is no way for ACID to address each channel individually. The SBLive (and Audigy) only support the DirectSound driver model to permit channel routing. They don't support Wave i/o channel routing and after many discussions in trying to get them to support standard Wave I/O speaker mappings defined by Windows, their answer was that it would hurt game players because they would loose 4-6 possible voices (out of 36) if they supported this mode. (Poor gamers...) The Audigy has ASIO drivers, which permit ACID to access each surround channel individually. You may want to contact Creative and ask them to fix their drivers to support Wave MME surround channel mapping, but it is unlikely they will. Peter |

To supplement Peter's post, there are also alternative SBlaster drivers known as the kX-Project, available here. They work for all current models of Sound Blaster (ie, Live!, Live! Value, Live! Platinum, MP3+, Audigy, basically anything with an EMU chip in it). The nice part is that they'll let you utilize each channel pair output within the card individually, easily allowing for surround sound as it's intended. There are a host of other advantages that needn't be repeated, so check this thread for more information. The group there will be glad to help you if you need assistance. Hope this helps, Nick |
