Subject:Acid Pro 4 and vst effects

I was wondering if Acid Pro 4 supports vst effects at the track level? I understand it supports vst instruments, but was wondering if it supported the many vst effects that are out there. I am deciding whether I should upgrade or just get a vst-directx adaptor for all of my vst effects. Thanks in advance! TC

There are many VST->DX effect wrappers out there, and many of them work quite well.

Yo Nate-

that's interesting cuz' I use FXpansion's wrapper in Sonar and it works like a DREAM but ACID doesn't even see it...any reason why & can this may be corrected?

I'm using FXpansion's VST Wrapper in Acid 4 and it works gloriously. Are you certain you set yours up right?

thanks for all the responses. So i take it that acid pro 4 does not support vst effects, but instead you must still get a vst-direct x adaptor or wrapper program.

Correct, Acid will not support VST FX directly. Spin Audio has a lite wrapper for free, and FXpansion has a lite version for $30, and a standard edition for $60. If you're only interested in using one VST effect at a time, the free one should be just fine. However, if you want to chain them together, or you've got a large collection, try the ones at FXpansion. Demos are available.

I'm not sure what you mean about "setting it up right"...I mean, it's a dream in Sonar...so what should I be doing with it? Like I said, ACID doesn't even see it. Meaning: in the 'Third-Party' section in the explorer, it doesn't exist. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, no go on the kX drivers, couldn't get 'em to work as we previously discussed. Also, couldn't re-insatll the Audigy drivers after the kX un-install so I just wiped the whole drive and rebuilt the box...oh well...needed 2 b done anyway...works great now. Talk 2 u soon.

I'm using FXpansion's VST Wrapper (V4.0) in Acid 4 as well, and it works gloriously for me too. Every VST is there where it should be.

Oh I see...it's transparent...it just makes the VST effects visible not itself...I've been looking for the wrapper itself! There ya go...another mystery solved!

Ya...fxpansion's standard wrapper is nice, and can be DX-enabled...what scares me about this Acid 4 is not so much the bugs, they're a bugger to be sure, but that's just tip of the iceberg, especially if, for instance, I go in and out of sonar131, and with SF6, Acid3 and VV3 it's workin fine, but these bugs poppin up makes me wonder about issues of proprietary restraints, non-compatibility, etc...and I'm lookin to get Acid 4...!
