I'm have major hard crashes, that have gotten progressively worse (actually at first I wasn't having any problems) I'm using an Aardvark 20/20 with the latest ASIO drivers on a 800Mhz PIII with 512 Meg RAM. The card works great when just using single instruments and at first was performing well with ACID 4.0. Now it starts breaking up like the feedback on a delay pedal that's stuck on infinite until I have to cold boot the system. Then I'll get random error messages....like Acid cause and error in Kernel32 amongst others nothing real consistent. The songs I'm composing are using up to four or five VST instruments with some automated plugins, but the breakdowns are getting worse and worse and doesn't seemto be an issue with using to many instruments...but who knows? Now I'm wondering, am I just pushing the Aardvark asio drivers too hard, should I get a different sound card...is there a compatability issue with Acid and the aardvark cards? just some of my ponderings....any suggs are helpful. Thanks. PS one more weird thing happens too, when I shutdown ACID and sometimes Soundforge I get a Runtime error 216 at 00002DB0. |

Any more info on your system including what video card you use? Any programs installed and running in the background? Also try lowering or turning off video acceleration. If you try the WDM drivers, do they work OK? (Switch to Windows Classic Wave Driver and select your specific output.) HTH, Iacobus |

What version of Windows are you using? I have a DirectPro 24/96 here and the drivers themselves have taken some work just to get them functioning properly (in Windows) in the first place. Afterwards, updating DirectX somehow got them mixed up, and removing and reinstalling the device and drivers a couple of times got it going again. They are working OK for me now. Even so, under Win2K, about one of every 6-8 times I reboot, I find that "aardvark.exe" is using 100% of the first of my 2 CPU's and must reboot again to fix it. I think if I took the time to install Windows 2000 clean, update the OS completeley, then installed their latest drivers things would probably work perfectly right off the bat. But I haven't had time to test it. Nate |

I've got an Intel 82815 Graphics controller for my main monitor and an S3 ViRGE-DX/GX PCI(375/385)for my 2nd monitor. But I haven't been trying to use the other monitor toomuch because I notice how ACID hates it when you run your cursor over there. I try to keep other programs off while running acid, I shutdown my Zonelab firewall and I shutdown anyother startup items, but it's still like walking on egg shells. I'll try your suggestions and see how that works......Thanks, I'll be righht back. |

I'm using the infamous OS Windows ME!! The thought of updating my OS is not a nice one. However! I did follow mD's advice. I went and disabled my 2nd monitor and turned down the acceleration on the primary video adapter to the 2nd lowest setting. Upon trying ACID again the ASIO setup was still glitching ever so badly. So I switched to the Windows Classic Wave Driver and selected my output. It works as smooth as butter, I'm even listening as I write this. But that makes latency really bad when using the VST instruments........................So whaddaya thing Nate should I just go out and get a Creamware Luna? What card or ASIO sytem would ya'll recommend?? thanks much! |

Recommendations aren't my game. :) Officially, Sonic Foundry does not recommend specific cards or products. We are really friends with everyone in the industry and don't want to play favorites. I'm sure there are plenty of readers on this forum who would be happy to give you their opinions on the sound cards that are out there, and let you know which they prefer and which they've had problems with. After all, they are the true test of our software, and are using it everyday in the real world. Guys? Gals? Suggestions for FlipJack? Nate |

Alrighty, I can understand your position Nate. How about you Md? Yeah I'm open to suggestions, from what I've seen Creamware definately makes some bold anti-latency claims, but they be a bit pricey too. Anybody out there have a LUna system, and if so...what is the deal with the I/O congiguration? From the pictures it looks like two anologue 1/4 inch jacks, a couple weird PS2 looking inputs, and some kind of stereo mini jack?? That's the only thing I wonder about. I don't really wanna spend another 4oo bucks on that 8 channel inerface cuz I don't necessarily need that many right now....... TIA |

Just an addition: You may want to check out the Aardvark or Creative Cow forums and see what other users have to say about your current audio interface. It may be that it works perfectly under 2K or XP. Personally, I would rather wipe my system and install a new OS clean then shell out more money for a new interface while sticking with an OS that isn't exactly the most stable thing on earth. What happens if the OS is to blame? Nate |

Yeah, but I have a feeling it's not the OS, besides none of the Windows updates seem very forgiving or beneficial unless your a gamer or some excel spreadsheet junkie. I think it's just about diabling all the fat from the OS and using only what's neccesary. I could be wrong, but I need to upgrade to a 24/96 Khz capable card anyway. The 20/20 still just up to 48k. Not that it makes a huge difference to me, but ya gotta keep up with the Joneses.............. |

Before you make any changes, you might want to wait for our first update to 4.0. This will address many of the ASIO performance problems that you are seeing. I, like Nate, found that getting the Aardvark DirectPro to work all the time was a bit of a pain. It launches a service to make things work - for the life of me I can't understand why they do this - and this service can cause all kinds of havoc with even the simplest of systems. Once I got if configured correctly, I have had no issues, but this is on 2000 and XP. Peter |

Cool, thanks for the input Peter. I sent an e-mail to Aardvark explaining this whole thing to them but haven't got a reply yet, so we shall see... Any ETA for the 4.0 update? |
