Subject:Rendering size in 4.0 is HUGE!!!

Okay, I don't know if this is happening to anyone else, but I just recently rendered a project in AP 4.0 and it was approx.12 times larger than when I rendered it in AP3.0. I posted this problem to the tech dept.at SOFO, but I was just wondering if this is going on for others. Luces |

I don't have my copy of 4.0 yet (ordered the boxed version) but what might be going on is your bit rate. Depending on what file format you're rendering to, inadvertently increasing the bit rate can substantially increase your file size. Not having 4.0 myself I may be saying something I know nothing about. In any event it is something to check. I've had that happen when rendering an MP3 at 128 and then accidentally rendering to 320. My renders (in .wav format) come out just right -- 10MB/minute, stereo. |

Luces, The specs of the file formats you can render to from ACID haven't changed since 3.0. Your options for bit depth and sampling rate have grown, but so long as you render your project to the bit depth/sampling rate/bitrate you want, you should output the file size per unit time that you desire. Is it possible that you upped your project bitrate to 24/96, or 24/192 before rendering to WAV or AIF? This could account for a huge growth in file size. The size of the file you render has nothing to do with ACID, and everything to do with the properties you choose to render your file with. For example, from any program: WAV, AIF, or other PCM format, 16 bit, 44,100 Hz = ~10MB/min WAV, AIF, or other PCM format, 24 bit, 96,000 Hz = ~35MB/min MP3, WMA, RM, etc at 128kbps = ~1MB/min MP3, WMA, RM, etc at 320kbps = >2MB/min As you can see, the specs of the format determine the file size, not the software. It's completely up to you to choose how you want to render your file. HTH, Nate |

Okay, sorry about this post, but I figured out why there was a HUGE difference in the file size. I inadvertently added about 500 measures of a click track! Sorry for the idiocy! Luces |
