IMHO, I believe the ACID 4.0 release was premature. It seems a "cash generating" scheme to help Sonic Foundry. Now I understand the R&D costs money, and that pirates cost money, but, I can't see how putting out such a buggy product is justified. You CAN'T: 1. Use VST Instruments in real time 2. Use the Chopper and audition without a crash 3. Use ASIO without a crash (8/22/02 I should've read the release notes) 4. Use the midi like a current midi sequencer (Logic, Cubase, Sonar) like led to believe in the advertisments. What midi is included is very limited in real time recording. Plus all the bugs, crashes etc. that MANY people, including myself have encountered and posted. Now I am expecting flames and the "what is it specifically that happened to your inadequate system" posts, but I know this, I spent more money on a product that is 50% (8/22/02 Ok, 75%). A real "bummer". I am back to my old ways, using ACID for strictly loop based stuff, then import to Logic for sequencing (A REAL PAIN IN THE ASS)to use my VST Instruments sucessfully with ASIO and all the VST features needed. I was a very happy Sonic Foundry user, but, now.....just happy, ACID is still very cool, Regards, Rich |

I'm doing 1, 2, and 3 on a Celeron 500 with 256MB of SDRAM running Win2K. I have to agree that the midi capabilities aren't quite up to par with long-established midi sequencers such as Sonar and Cubase, but overall, it's been pretty decent. The most problems I've had have been with the OPT editor. |

Your a lucky guy, ASIO (an M-Audio user) does not work, So 1 & 3 are out. Sometimes auditioning choper stuff crashes. I am frustrated that Sonic Foundry released an app that had known ASIO issues, not to mention the other problems people (including myself)have enountered. Rich |

I hear you. Not trying to aggravate the situation any, but I use an Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96 audio/midi card, and love it. No ASIO problems at all, and it has a WDM driver that works with Sonar. I resarched sound cards for a couple of months before I forked over the cash, and almost bought the M-Audio Delta 66, but saw too much about poor customer service/slow response from M-audio. I've found the Aardvark customer service to be fantastic, and they seem to be very proactive with bug fixes. Again, I know this doesn't turn the sh_ _ your dealing with into Shinola, but I thought perhaps, somewhere in the back of your mind, you might be pondering a sound card purchase. In the meantime, I hope M-Audio gets their stuff together. |

What's funny, is that ASIO is SOLID AS A ROCK with Logic 5.0. I mean SOLID. VST Instruments, I had 12 going with 24 tracks of audio, NO PROBLEM (plus, I could play them in REAL TIME). The M-AUDIO card has been great, even, dare I say EXCELLENT! My favorite card of all (owned Aardvark, RME & Emagic) I use Samplitude, Cubase, Logic, Saw Studio,Vegas with zero problems. I'm glad the update is working for you. Regards, Rich |
