Subject:HELP: Cannot get past splash screen on V4!

I've just purchased the downloadable Acid 4 and installed it onto my WinME workstation (P4 1.6Ghz, 256Mb RAM) and it installs fine, but when I got to run it, it cannot get past the splash screen. Previously I was using Acid 3 (Pro) and never had any problems at all... I've tried installing it onto my other XP machine and that worked OK. Does anyone know of any bugs or means to get around this? I searched through the forum but found nothing. If anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful; so far all I can wonder is how SOFO can release something so unstable... not $99 well spent. |

Did yours crash? Mine crashes after displaying the splash window. (PIII 1GHZ, WinME, 256MB RAM, Soundcard WAMI Box). I've tried with my other (built in, cheap) sound card and then there was no problem to start. (but, I had enough problems elsewhere) I hope that there will be a patch soon... Because right now i can't work with ACIDPro 4.0 and I was foolish enough to save my recent project with v4.0 so I cannot edit it anymore with 3.0 :-(((( |

Guys, I feel for you. I posted a new topic titled "this poor user..." Got a response for ya from a sonic man...here you go: ATI video card with the latest drivers? Uninstall the latest drivers and install the previous drivers. That will fix the problem. Ted |

Definitely. I had this issue with those newfangled CATALYST ATI Radeon drivers. Gave me nothing but grief when trying to use ACID Pro (3.0 or 4.0). Went back to previous version and all was fine. Iacobus |

Thanks for this - but unfortunately I'm using an NVidia card... so I guess this one doesn't apply :( I've now also tried removing Acid 3 (to avoid any conflicts or whatever)... but still no dice. I just find it odd given the PC is stable and the previous version of Acid was rock solid.... Any other ideas? Help a man out! |

Hello, This could be caused from a plug-in being scanned and not being compatible with Acid, does this happen when the program is scanning for plug-ins? See ya, Rockitglider |

it doesn't say that its scanning for plugins (as it should on first load), but certainly it around that time when it craps out, yeah... this is the problem though - all you can see is the damn splash screen, which lends NOTHING to diagnosing the issue... |

Rockit may be right- if you are hanging right after the splash screen comes up, it sounds like a plug-in conflict. Plug-in diagnostics are pretty easy if you use DXman: (http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/audio/dxman.htm)(free). You can unload any some or all DX plug-ins and, by restarting the DX host app (in this case ACID) a few times, zero in on problem plug-in pretty quickly. Worth a try- |

Great - so I have now removed ALL my audio plugins, and its made NO difference whatsoever. So, on top of having a copy of Acid that won't work, I now have no bloody plugins to use in Sound Forge unless I go and reinstall them all. Now don't get me wrong: I love the product and I HUGELY appreciate all your efforts to help SonicEPM... however as I'm sure you can understand I'm now pretty fed-up. This morning I had a PC that was working fine, with loads of plugins and Acid 3 running like a dream. Now I have a PC with no working versions of Acid and no plug-ins. Let me reiterate: the splash screen is NOT getting to the "scanning for audio plugins" part when loading: it is crapping out before that. Given I've now removed all but the most essential DX plugins I think we can assume it is not related to that. So - anyone else got any ideas? If not, how exactly do you get a refund on this product??? |

Hello, I don't think it will be that bad It's probly only one maybe two that are causing the problem, And it's deffinately not a Sonic Foundry plug so you won't loose all your Sound Forge plugs. Hang in there See ya, Rockitglider |

NOW WE ARE GETTING SOMEWHERE!!! OK - I have gotten to the bottom of this: Acid is taking over 8 minutes to load (during which time it reports as 'not responding')... So - while I am delighted I now get to use it, I do wonder if the SOFO guys had any ideas as to why this is? I am presuming it is just timing out on something, possibly plug-in scans or somethng. Most odd... Anyways - BIG thank yous to all of you who helped me out here; it is much appreciated. Now I gotta get on and get my work finished! |

Do you have a lot of VSTis installed? What type of MIDI hardware do you have? What audio hardware are you using? Does your audio hardware have ASIO drivers? Peter |

Hello again, I had a feeling it might be Win ME There is an issue with windows ME where your inf folder in the Windows directory gets thousands of 0k files in numbered order, you have to have "show all hidden files" selected in "Folder Options" in "Control Panel" to be able to see the inf Folder and files because there hidden by default. If you see a bunch of 0k files in there delete them, but don't delete the 1k files only the 0k ones, then restart your computer and it should work, but you might need to reinstall Direct X 8.1 again because this problem also keeps Direct X from installing properly as well. This problem mostly shows up whem people have any Norton Antvirus software installed. Let me know what happens. See ya, Rockitglider |

ROCKIT: no 0k files in the INF folder at all (and that is with the option to show all files enabled). SONIC: I have about 10 VSTi's installed, which I wouldn't think it too many... The only MIDI hardware I have is my keyboard, and that is not plugged in at the moment! My audio hardware is an ISIS card, which has ASIO2 drivers installed. I also have an SB Live card on the PC as well... |
